For the fans that say it's a wasted pick he's not going to play and the Steelers should've drafted another player, the New York Giants did the same thing took a QB in the fourth round Ryan Nassib and he's not going to play either. Both teams wanted to start grooming a young QB who played big time college football. I was surprised also by the pick of Landry Jones but with Ben's injury history we need a young stud QB. Or maybe the Steelers are thinking about the recent contract extensions by franchise QB's Flacco, Romo, and Rodgers and if Ben plays hardball they let him walk if they don't want to give him another 100 million contract.

I don't really know anything about this pick but I can tell you that I heard he was named after Tom Landry and so today at work I told a die hard Cowgirls fan about that today and he acted like he was smacking me in the face. LOL! So as long as it's making Cowgirl fans mad I'm all for it and it's worth a pick in the draft just to do that.

I think it is a good pick. It is the first time the front office is addressing or even showing that they are thinking about LIB(Life after Ben) Is Jones the heir apparent? I don't know maybe he is just a career back up, maybe he becomes a solid DLG QB or maybe he is something special who knows but I like that they said ok we need to use a higher draft pick and get some talent at the QB position and develop him. Now Jones solid system QB and I think he will do well in the type of offense Haley wants to run. I think that it is a huge potential problem though and not because of a QB controversy. You already have reports from various media outlets and players whether true or exaggerated about a fracturing of the locker room. This could potentially cause that rift to reopen if it was closed at all. Ben has earned the right to have some freedom in what he does as most veteran players have and they are granted some leeway by coaches. I don't think it will be easy to teach some of these young players if they see some of the vets getting away with stuff they aren't. I hope that everyone gets with the program, the vets set the tone for the young guys and they put this locker room crap behind them.

Love this guy talking about football! He seems so much more into the X's and O's than most of the studs coming out of college these days. I dare say that he'll make Ben better by his enthusiasm and his grasp of the playbook this year. I really think they're using this as a push for Ben to work smarter on the field. Give him 2 back-ups that don't know the old offense and make him mentor them.

it's time. we needed a qb to come in and give us a chance to win and not have to worry about the goaline breaking ribs, or the older guy working out the kinks for two weeks to get ready. we needed one game to get us in the playoffs last year. as ben gets older and more beat up, we can't keep expecting him to play through these injuries. two years in a row we saw he's not very effective playing like that. who would be?

the kid has some game and fitchner will work with him. he's made several qb's without jones' talent good players. they need a player that can put us in a position to win a game down the stretch if we have to have one. they will alter the offense to fit his stregnths. they do it with charlie and lefty, why wouldn't they with jones. we can't keep tanking, when ben is hurt. i think the kid was a great pick. there's alot to work with there.

I'm surprised people have a problem with it.
Leftwich is done. Batch may contribute but hopefully more from a coaching standpoint, Gradkowski is nothing more than an emergency bandaid in case Ben gets laid out (again). Landry can be the future after Ben is gone or can be leverage for Ben's next contract if he actually looks good out there. Ben will have a decade in the league this year and so far his actually playing style plus Chryler head butt actually reflect more to the tune of 14 seasons.
