This is Gonna Be an Awesome Draft

We have not drafted multiple players in the top fifty picks in 9 years since 2014. That year we took Ryan Shazier at 1 and Stephon Tuitt at 2. We got Matavis Bryant at 4. If we can duplicate that kind of success in this draft that should really set us up for some foundational success over the next five years.

The Year we drafted Claypool and Highsmith we drafted Claypool at 45 I believe and Highsmith was outside the top 80. We have four picks inside the top 80 this year. From what I have read on Steelers Depot it really appears the Steelers are not looking at OT’s and the G’s they are looking at are later round prospects. That could all be a smoke screen but it really seems like things are lining up for this to be heavy defensive draft which is exactly what we need.

I wouldn’t mind a trade back with someone like the La Chargers and we pick up their first rd at 21 and their third rounder and we throw in a 7th rounder. That would give us 5 picks in the top 90.

You get your ILB in FA along with your edge depth in FA as there is a ton of edge players in FA and focus on building out the CB, S room and replensihing the DL room in the draft. Perhaps they can get a Ben Powers in FA to compete with Dotson and draft a late round developmental OL. Then in 2024 you go heavy on the OL in the draft.

Right now as it stands we have 3 players in the top 50 and 4 in the top 80. Should be an awesome draft.

 

Let's just hope all the picks no matter whom they pick, and no matter when turn out to be great players for us.

 

Even if I whine on draft day

 

I think it would be fools gold to go with more than one offensive player in the first three picks. This draft is heavy on DB’s and Edge. We have a need at both plus DL and ILB. I think between FA and the draft this is the year we finally settle the ILB, DB and Edge positions to set this team up gong into the season. I would love to see how Watt and Highsmith T-off on the QB with some talented CB’s backing them up. Imagine our turnovers and sack production...

I'm cool with Banks or White. Adeboware really doesn't make much sense unless we have no plans of resigning Highsmith. Yes we need edge depth, which can be addressed in the 3rd or 4th. A guy like White can be encouraged to put on some weight and end up being Cam's replacement at 34 DE. Banks is someone I'm really intrigued by, just having doubts he'll be there at 17. His stock really jumped this past week.

 

He is actually a DLineman. I know he ran with the edge guys. But this is a 6'3 282 pound DLineman who played across the line with h both run stopping and power. He is a more freaky and tweaked up Leal.

I posted this in another thread. Since we don't have a 5th or 6th, and I doubt he makes it to 7, we may have to trade next year's fifth to select him, which I'm okay with.

Great Guy, high character, really good player but...How high of a pick can you legitimately give up... Knowing he's basically a Redshirt...

A team with a bunch of picks should pounce on this Guy! Was projected ( pre injury ) late 2nd-3rd round pick...Throw a 4th at him, because something tells me this Dude will come back strong!

 

If he put up 38 reps while in pain I wonder how much he could have done while healthy? This shows that he is a warrior who is resilient, tough and can play through pain.

 

I would take center John Michael Schmitz at #32.

 

I think the only way we take 2 offensive players in the top 4 picks is if they are OL and WR.

We seem to have only formally talked to the big name tackles and talking to early/mid-ish round G's. So if we don't have an OT available at 17 we like, we probably punt that position until next year and prioritize a replacement guard this year. We also formally talked to a couple early-ish WR's (Hyatt, Addison, JSN, Flowers) so maybe there's potential there. Bresee and Benton are the only DL I heard we talked to with much hype about them. However, we DID talk to a TON of CB's lots who could be available at 17 and 32. I'd be floored if we didn't end up with a CB at either of those spots.

 

This year might be your year buddy. We talked to 3 guys we probably like at 17 (Smith, Porter Jr., and Branch) and a few others that we would probably look at for 32 (Banks, Ringo, Forbes, Phillips III).

I'd assume we probably figure that Witherspoon and Gonzalez will be gone by 17, and we would potentially consider moving up for Porter Jr. if necessary. Hoping for a run on QB's

There's a lot of interest in the top CB's.

 

We did talk to Witherspoon, but not Gonzales, at the combine.

 

I saw that tweet, too. But I've seen two "official" lists of people we met with at the combine, and Gonzalez wasn't on either of them.
