Excellent! Great for the rotation. Now to add to the corner position and dump Layne.

I never heard of the writer but he came across like a Peter King who just snorted Addie. Confident much?

Maybe it was his way of lighting a fire under the GM. :icon razz:

Glad to see the Steelers get some much-needed help at outside linebacker.

Could Malik Hooker be next?! Please?! That would make my day personally!! :drinks:

Back on topic, excellent move by the team. Rock solid three man rotation if Ingram can avoid the Injury Bug; the entire team the same.

Ingram was signed to be a backup, he's 32 coming off a season where he was injured. He will be OLB #3, to spell Watt and Highsmith, Ingram can play both sides.

Ingram could be a starter if he wins the job in camp and preseason. Players like Watt and Highsmith can learn and benefit from a veteran's presence and experience. Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL.

Deal is worth $4m apparently. Great value for a guy with his experience, hope he stays healthy. If he is in a rotation role 20 snaps a game that should help

He was never as good as Watt. Highsmith can learn, sure, but TJ is on another level.

Agreed. I can't imagine Ingram is going to be teaching Watt anything. I think Highsmith was already in good hands with Butler as his position coach. I still don't think he's a very good defensive coordinator, but he knows how to coach outside linebackers.

Ingram is there to play, most likely as the No. 3 outside linebacker, but getting a lot of work. He can rotate in for both starters, and I wouldn't be surprised to see all three of them on the field together as we saw a few times with Watt, Dupree, and Highsmith last season.

This is your own ignorant thinking. I will let you figure out why that's the case.

So are you suggesting older and more experienced individuals in life can't offer younger individuals advice and experience? Ignorance at it's finest.

Individuals can learn from anyone they encounter in life.

Basically, this is one principle of the NFL. Younger players learn from older and more experience players. Even if the younger players are "better".

    :hmm:

Implying T.J. has not sought out J.J.'s advice since his days at Wisconsin?! I would have assumed he did given his one year starting in 2016 at the program. Was one of the most polished EDGE Players of his class. Glad that @Blast Furnace@Blast Furnace called that pick when he did; me at the time believing he would be a Top 20 Player even in a loaded class!

After his first game against Cleveland, I knew he would be special. Has proven me right ever since. Glad we got him! :rawk:

I didn't imply anything. I suggested that TJ and Highsmith could learn from Ingram's veteran presence in the locker room, film study, experiences, ect. They play a similar position. J.J. plays a different position. I am sure TJ sought JJ's advice.

Anyone who thinks they know everything can be in for a rude awakening. Ingram brings his own experiences, techniques, and teaching from different coaches in the league. He is an older and more experienced player.

Are you questioning that TJ and Highsmith can't learn anything from Ingram?

This ish isn't difficult to understand but people want to disagree or have doubts. Like individuals can't learn anything from older and more experienced players. SMH.

Who stated T.J. knew everything? All I said was T.J. had a valuable resource since his days at Wisconsin. For that matter, that resource is still in use today; J.J. Watt. The fact that he is still learning from his brother tells me that T.J. Watt still does not have all the answers... nor is he supposed to. That said, in terms of the pass rushing basics, even if he is a 3-4 DE, J.J. Watt is still a HOF Caliber Player; a far cry from what Melvin Ingram is and thus is a superior teacher by default as both players are designed to get to the QB. However, none of that is a factor here. Why?

T.J. Watt and Melvin Ingram are pass rushers but there are different pass rushing methods. Melvin Ingram is a speed based Pass Rusher; using overall speed and overall explosive ability to get to the QB. J.J. and, for that matter in T.J., are leverage based pass rushers; using technique, length, agility and leverage to win one on ones. T.J.'s pass rushing style does not fit Melvin's by default. This is due to their athletic ability; T.J. Watt is no doubt explosive but is best suited for working either around or through blockers laterally whereas Ingram's game is to overwhelm blockers with speed and explosiveness.

All this said, you do have a good indirect point. While T.J. cannot use this style of rushing, Alex Highsmith and more so Quincy Roche, will definitely benefit from it. Of the two, Roche is likely going to be the biggest beneficiary as his skillset is a carbon copy of how Ingram gets to the QB.

And the fact remains that Watt and other players on the Steelers roster can learn from Ingram. That was my main point. Ingram can also learn from Watt and other Steelers players.

Apparently others like to think otherwise. Nevermind.........

No, I'm not suggesting older and more experienced individuals can't offer younger individuals advice and experience. I'm suggesting that it is silly to think Watt has much to learn from an inferior player this far into his career.

The Steelers brought in Ingram for his talent. I'm not sure why that is so hard for you to understand. You made a silly point and now you are insulting multiple posters in a weak attempt to double down.

The Steelers signed Ingram for his overall package. Talent, experience, ect. Experience matters to coaches.

I didn't make a weak point. Your point is weak in believing that, "I can't imagine Ingram is going to be teaching Watt anything".

A player that's been in the league several years longer than Watt. He's had different coaches and experiences. Probably played vs different players than Watt at this stage. Ingram can offer tips vs certain offenses, formations, players, ect.

Anyways I don't expect you to understand my point. You want to be stuck on, "it is silly to think Watt has much to learn from an inferior player this far into his career"

It's unfortunate for you that you don't think that others can learn from other in sports, life, regardless of talent, experiences, ect.

    So be it.

So, do you enjoy making up both sides of a conversation? That's what you are doing here, especially the part in bold. I wrote no such thing.

It is absolutely comical that you think the Steelers considered what Ingram might be able to teach Watt when they signed him. That is moving Heyward-Bey to safety level of ridiculous.

I understand your point. Anybody could understand your point. It isn't that complex of a thought. It's just incorrect.

So Watt can't learn anything from Ingram? Ingram's been in the league 5 years longer.

My opinion was that less experienced players can learn from more experienced players. People are free to disagree. No problem.

Once a player thinks he knows it all it's never good. I hope Watt is smarter than a few of our posters.

If there's any money left, we should bring in Tre Boston to teach Minkah how to play safety.
