    This alone is it.

Ben broke down last year. Ben broke down the year before.

If I have an old car that keeps breaking down on the way to work, there is no reason to think after it sitting in the garage for another year, will cause it to drive me to California.

    Bens is an old car.

I know it’s a tired argument but I really still don’t see the point of him coming back. They went all-in last year and fell short. It really did feel like a natural time to move on with a new OC taking charge of a new look offence. I have a feeling both sides might regret the decision in the end.

Yeah, I wonder for those confident they're way over, what do they see their record being after 12 games, before they finish with TEN, @KC, CLE, @BAL?

In the end, I think the Steelers are just counting on too many key 30-something vets, half of whom are already declining. Ben, DeCastro, and Haden are all obviously huge to team success, and they're near the end. Alualu is key to the run D, have to wonder how much he has left at 34. Heyward is a marvel at 32, can he keep it up without falling off? Vince will hopefully be supplanted by Buddy Johnson at some point this season.

Haden worries me the most just because of the general shape of the CB position. If he hits the wall, the D will really go into the toilet.

Not 2 argue. You act like we didn't run RPOs last year. Do you know the 2 things that happened the most when we ran them??
Magically...O Line called 2 far down the field, or dropped.
Now I'm not Ben, but if 97% of the time I run a play and that's the outcome. I don't run said play 2 many more times.

They don’t get younger. And in this case. He keeps breaking down. Last year he made it 11 games at best. This year the odds are fewer.

They’d need 10 wins from the first 12 I’d think. They’ll probably need 12 wins to make the playoffs as a WC. It’s not impossible but they’d need almost everything to go right.

How weird is it to think of records as 10-7, 11-6, 7-10

Mike Tomlin is real good at delivering 8-8
So I'll go with Tomlin for 500

In the last draft, 6 wins would have been the #6 pick. At that point, it would have been the #4 QB if that’s what you are suggesting.

Is the #4 QB your lofty wish for this team?

I see jeh point and I see what you are saying but older humans in pro sports have a hard time healing when youngsters are kicking their butt. (Tom Brady excluded:)

Yes, I'd take Justin Fields in a heartbeat right now. 6th pick would have also gotten Ben in 2004, Rodgers in 2005, Watson or Mahomes in 2017, Josh Allen in 2018, Justin Herbert in 2020.

There was a QB in 1983 that fell way past 6, too.

If I had to bet, I would take the over, but just barely. I want to be optimistic, but I see 9-8 or maybe 10-7 this year.

I'm not so sure about that. Even with 17 games I think we will see some 10 win teams in the Playoffs. Heck, if the Eagles could have won their last game the Playoffs would have had it's first 6 win team.

With a 16 game schedule last season no AFC team made it with less than 11 wins iirc. I can’t see how 10 wins will make it next year on a 17 game schedule. Maybe in the NFC but the AFC is really strong right now.

Using last years NFC East is not a good point of reference because it was a historically bad division and the winner made the playoffs effectively by default. I can’t see the winner of the AFC North having less than 13 wins personally, albeit there is a chance they all take wins from each other, even the Bengals might beat a few division rivals at home if Burrow is for real

I agree. To me, 9-8 is the ceiling. There are too many "if's" that have to fall on the positive side. They have some talent, but as others have pointed out, some of that talent is rapidly approaching their use by date. Much of that same talent man crucial positions. A couple of long term injuries at those positions could mean 5-12 or worse. Of course, as a fan, I'm hoping for much better, but I just don't see it. At least today, anyway.
