The Steelers are on the Clock

they had a ton of depth last year on the o-line. cowherd, haeg, finney, pridgeon, leglue, turner, hassenauer, chaz green, dotson, okrafor, moore, green. i think the problem was the line coach. they quickly found out he wasn't what they thought and he bailed before the season ended. who does that? how many coaches take another job and actually leave before the season is over. our assistant took over with a few of these guys and played better. morgan should have been the head guy from the start. he was quickly hired away at the end of the season which left us looking yet again for one.

most of these backups are still here, so kevin saying we didn't have enough depth last year doesn't fly much since we still have the same depth this year. except 3 that he thought were guys he made good moves with. turner, cowherd and finney. finney got injured in his defense. dotson which was a draft pick also got injured but even when he was healthy they never brought him in to play.

their draft pick green couldn't cut it at center, so don't blame the backups, it was the draft picks and free agents that didn't play well. even ben threw a fit when they tried to force cowherd into the game to replace leglue and ben was sacked immediately. ben threw a fit and leglue re-entered the game at that point. turner stunk. we have a guy now that should shine in his spot. we have added a starting quality center. moore played well at times as a rookie. okrafor is what he is. not terrible but not great. LG will be an interesting watch. pretty much the same depth though. new coach that actually has done it before in the nfl as the head guy.

not much has changed in their approach to the o-line. get a couple of good players and fill in around them. usually with futures and UDFA's. daniels and cole are the good ones. moore as i said when we got him has a possible high ceiling. he will improve. okrafor can pass block but as a run blocker we shall see if he finally gets it. LG is yet to be determined.

 

Just me guessing but I’m thinking the Steelers gave him “an opportunity to advance his career”. That’s the phrase I used when I was walking ex employees to the door.
