I am certain that you did pride yourself in objectivity. My rant was about the way things are, not the way they were. Journalistic integrity used to be held as a high standard not only by journalists but also the media outlets which employed them. Sadly that just isn't the case anymore.

I never had the opportunity to write professionally as guys like @Karl@Karl and yourself did. I did spent my high school years as sportswriter, sports editor, and then editor and chief of my high school paper. (Not bragging, getting to a point) I had one helluva a great teacher for Journalism class. He used to beat journalistic integrity into our heads. This guy would give lectures on the daily about a journalists responsibility to present the news in a way that informed the public, but didn't sway them. Opinions were to be expressed in editorial pieces, not news articles. Some of the leading headlines that I read nowadays must be giving this man heart attacks, assuming he is still alive.

These days media outlets have to compete with social media. Integrity standards are nonexistent on social media. So traditional media outlets have lowered their standards in order to compete for readers, viewers, ratings, followers, etc. Its sad honestly. It leaves the public having to fact check and do research in order to know what is true and false. It shouldn't be that way.

Journalism's is about who, what, when, where, why and how. It seems much more common to hear the 5 Ws and H filtered by 24/7 biased spin; a prime example, the Cowboys are America's team...barf. Everyone can see on TV that half the stadium at Steelers away games is filled with Steelers jerseys.

There are still members of the media who get it. Sharing opinions wasn't the lack of objectivity I was talking about.

You don't have to speak about or write about your opinion to miss the mark on objectivity. Sometimes, bias shows in what questions a reporter asks, which information they choose to share, or which they give more attention. That sort of subjectivity is much harder to control. Often, it is done without the reporter even realizing they are doing it.

Seems like the ones who whine and moan the most over political correctness.... are the ones who are the most easily offended. Strange dynamic going on there.

Political correctness and appropriate sensitivity are not the same things. Political correctness is doing it for the show, to make everybody see you as sensitive, or to gain some advantage. Appropriate sensitivity is understanding that there is actually a good reason to think before opening your mouth (or hitting post reply). Many of my students are high risk. I've had students who deal with food insecurity. Some have been abused. Some orphaned. Some have been homeless. Most have been bullied at some point. Some deal with depression, and a few have had suicidal thoughts. So yes, I think about this stuff differently than most. I'm not always good at it. I'm not politically correct by nature. I think it is silly that on a message board full of adults, the word **** is censored. (That was the F word, by the way.) I'm not complaining or saying it should change. The board has its rules and we agree to follow them so we can participate. It is a lesson I tell my students all the time. As long as they don't use slurs, I don't really care if they use profanity. I do care if they use it at school because it isn't appropriate there. It is about learning to control what you say, because most of us are going to be in situations where we need that control at some point in our lives.

I think Murray could have phrased his comment better. I know Bradshaw should have done better. Given his history, he should know better, but that's Bradshaw and he's never going to change. For the most part, that's a good thing. I'm just saying we can dislike what he said and mock people who think it is a big deal that should get him fired. There is a middle ground and that's where I land.

    I hope so also.
Although I was working through the pregame show, and didn't get in until 10, or 15 minutes before the game.....so I really don't know if it was even talked about

Agreed 100%, unfortunately it is not journalism, it's now entertainment but they try to couch it as news.

I've not heard it stated that way, and it's a good distinction. Terry will be out of the limelight soon enough and back to talking football; with a US population of give or take 330 million in the US alone, it won't take long for another person to come along to divert their attentions.
