Let me start by saying that the Raider loss was extremely disappointing.
With that being said, I believe we turn this around and make a typical Steeler run at the SB. These are the reasons why-
1- Ben is playing the best football of his career.
2- Our running game will be drastically improved with the addition of Mendenhall off the PUP list.
3- Todd Haley has reduced the importance of the OL in the passing game by convincing Ben to take the checkdown and calling quicker developing plays.
4- The defense will perform much better with the additon of two DPOY winners in #43 and #92.
5- This is the Steelers it's what they do.. Historically play better football as the season progresses.
    * No more west coast games!
That's how I see it but I'm sure I'll be advised to take off the rose-colored glasses and stop drinking the Kool-Aid.

No, I think you make some really valid points. Im not sure how much difference Troy and Harrison will make but I do agree we are typically a slow starting team and not having to travel to the West coast, is huge!

the season is not over by any means even though you would think it was by some of the posts around here.

they have the players to win a super bowl, but the window is closing very quickly on the defensive side. i think there will be a lot more changes on defense at the end of the season, but this is what they have right now.

Troy, James and Mendy will help a alot, but if the defense doesnt start getting some pressure on the qbs the secondary will continue to get picked apart.

It is very easy to look at Sunday and get into the....the sky is falling...type mentality, but that game was lost by more than just the D. Yes, the D didn't make any stops, but we were beaten in other areas. We turned the ball over twice and gave up 2 long KO returns. That means special teams and offense both contributed to the loss. The O has the ability to be very good if we can figure out how to run the ball. Special teams was just poor on Sunday....I wonder why? Defense seemed very plain to me, it is almost like it was a preseason game.

I have not given up hope just yet. Hopefully the D will get their issues sorted out by week 5.

IF our 2 rookie OL get into the line-up and play to their potential, and IF the D somehow remembers how to stop the run, pressure the QB and cover on 3rd down, then we will be unstoppable by the end of the year.

I am really hoping our D redeem themselves in week 5 and Mendy lights it up. Go Steelers!

don't forget the punt off the side of butlers foot, giving them good field position. i warned early this season about our ST's costing us a game. in this case it came with alot of other mistakes too. we can't forget palmer is not a bad qb and he knows us well. this isn't like playing against tyler palko or someone.

I am also an eternal optimist when it comes to the Steelers...
I just hope they start giving me reasons to have faith, instead of me trying to come up with them on my own...
I Like what I am seeing from the offense, with the exception of the running game.
At least Haley has got Ben to start using the short passes to make up for the lack of running.
I NEVER thought the defense would be an area of concern for me, despite repeated warnings by other posters, about the loss of talent, and the stubborness of Lebeau to adapt, but unless they start giving me a reason to believe, it appears the other posters were right...
I absolutely HATED the fact that our bye week was gonna be in week 4, coming into this season!
Now, it appears it couldn`t have come at a better time.
We DEFINITELY need to catch our breath, regroup, and come out focused on getting to ring number 7!!!
I still believe we can. There is just too much talent here, not to be a threat!
And, I can`t believe I`m saying this, but for the first time in my life, The D better step up, and do their job!!! :herewego: :yeehaw: :herewego!:
HERE WE GO STEELERS! HERE WE GO!!!

I believe we could turn it around and make a run if the starting defense stays healthy the remainder of the year. This 3-4 zone defense obviously suffers without James and Troy. The corners are not good enough without them. If there is no pressure quickly the zones fall apart and we become very vulnerable. I personally believe that we will not remain healthy and will again suffer drastically. Soooo I think that we need to:

    A) fire Lebeau and try another approach altogether.

    or

    B) Play for draft picks and get some high caliber corners and maybe a high motor defensive lineman or two.

This team is very mediocre at best and cannot handle a shootout or a tight game any more. Time and time again it has been defense that wins championships and this one has shown that it couldn't handle a 1A NCAA bowl game let alone a mediocre NFL game.

Hmm. I don't always buy into the whole "Steeler way of playing" thing, but I have to say I would never, ever expect to see someone suggesting we play for draft picks. Just not what I would expect.

After all, it didn't help us get OJ, back in the day...
