I think all NFL teams always know they need a stud QB, it's finding one that is the challenge. Some times have never had one in their entire history existence. It's the hardest position to fill in all professional sports IMO.

Homers? Lol. When are you guys going to get it? Most people here have the same concerns. They just don’t bombard the board with these over the top, over exaggerated, conspiracy, riddled, repetitive takes on the issues.
Come at it from a rational standpoint and you’ll get some good conversation .
    It’s really that simple.

I doubt if Mason will be back, especially now that Tomlin is still referring to Pickett as their #1 after clearly outplaying him. Can't say I blame him, I'm sure he'll get offers from other teams now

It was well done and unique, albeit not necessarily correct. Still, the play kept my admittedly short attention span

Back to reality, I think they’ve got a real dilemma on their hands and I don’t envy Tomlin. He’ll want to keep that 1st round pick going, while providing competition with Rudolph and or whoever. That means they’re not sold on Kenny’s their man. That’s a problem. Things bout to get crazy in the next Act.

    Go Steelers!

I think they should reward Mason with a raise and a promotion. Pickett can be #1 on the depth chart, but he has to play better than Mason's recent in stadium success which he hasn't proven he can do yet. Keeping Mason is the right thing to do.
We are finally getting a new O coordinator and after a good some may argue a great draft last year we have another draft not too far away. This team is not as lost as people may think. It's better than the Brister years of the 1980s and both Pickett and Mason are better QBs than the Tomzak/Stewart years. I think we can put something together this off season to win in the post season next year. We were a lot closer this year to being good but injuries and 3 bad losses in a row to poor teams did us in

Ok so how would you have done it? We probably would have drafted Stroud if he was there but we haven’t picked in the top 10 without a big trade up for decades. The lowest we had been was with Cowher when we got Ben at 11. The team has been too consistent to be able to get the players the Browns and Bengals got. They give all sorts of credit to the OC’s at Detroit and Texans but it’s hard to **** it up with the picks they get. Bring one over and tell them to win with the QB’s available at the bottom most of the time. You can get lucky (Brady, Wilson, Jackson) but most of the time the good ones go quick.

For one, I wouldn't have drafted the S&G QB after signing Trub and drafting Pickett in the same draft.

I would have canned Canada after 2021 given the **** show that was Ben's last season.

And what this dude says is reasonable (start with building OL first, then move to QB, that way the any QB after Ben is coming in to a good situation): https://steelersdepot.com/2024/01/r...ergers-retirement-set-this-organization-back/

Do you think the coach in this situation would have complete autonomy to fire the coordinator and draft whomever he wants to? The owner likely works through the GM and makes final calls on personnel and contracts. I doubt that a billionaire owner would allow a coach to dictate the financial side of the organization. The most likely process is that the GM will accept input from the coach and then work with the ownership group on what their final decision and then they will inform the coach who he will have available to him to work with. I guess I’m saying that a lot of blame naturally goes to the head coach, but reality is that most things are not under his direct control. Now you may have people (critics) that will say I would just leave if I couldn’t make those decisions. I would tell them they are living in a fantasy world, if they, me or you were made the coach of an NFL team for the tune of 8 million per year, you would coach what they give you and keep you’re mouth shut about issues that are not your’s to control.

This is a good take - I’m not aware of anyone who is happy about how the season went. In fact, when people get into a discussion on the issues, there is much agreement on what needs addressed in the off-season (OC, Oline, Improved QB play, etc).

I think posters take a varied approach to it all. Some like to repeat the same tired refrain in as many posts as they can, without building substantively on anything. It’s like they are just trying to build their post count or enjoy trolling around looking for an argument.

Remember WAY back before fantasy football? If you stuck by your team and supported them no matter what, you were called a die hard fan.

We seem to forget the futility we had when with QB's Cowher was here. O'Donnell was probably the best, got us to a SB and likely could have taken us to another, excetp for those ugly Int's in the SB. Tomczak to Slash, remember Kevin Mitchell? Watched an old steeler game with Tommy Maddox was the starter, the commentators said Bill finally felt like he has his guy, was not concerned about the Int's because he felt Tommy could still lead an O down the field, and if Dan R would not have intervened (rumored) we would have taken Andrews at T.

IDK who the get to be the guy who challenges KP, MR or some other person. We are in that transition, I honestly do not think KP is 'the'guy, with a new OC he may ne someone who can manage (though as this point that's doubtful), someone may cone in like Geno did as Seattle and do a decent job and make the team competitive (on the O side), but most likely we wade through the years waiting and hoping, desiring not a decades long trial.

I didn't really want to resurrect this thread, but I found it amusing that of the 4 QBs Steelers had on their roster in act 1 of the show in 2022 (Pickett, Trub, Rudolph, and the accidental 7th round pick), the one QB who is now in the SB and may get a SB ring is the accidental 7th round pick!

LOL... the comedy just writes itself...

Without a doubt, the QB is an exceptionally important part of the team. But it's not the only piece that matters.

Our defense is pretty good. We have a few outstanding players and a couple of holes in the defense, but overall it's not bad. A few tweaks and a couple of new people and it might end up being very good.

On the offensive side, you would be hard pressed to find anyone who disagrees with the statement that Trubisky sucks. Rudolph and Pickett are not bad. I still think that there's potential with both of them. You have to remember that they have spent the last couple of years with the NFL's worst offensive coordinator, a subpar center, a high school level game scheme, an offensive line that did not seem to be able to support the running game, and a seemingly lackadaisical approach to coaching that has led to discipline problems and a lack of preparation for games.

There are a lot of things in there that could be fixed and end up being a force multiplier for the quarterback. I am not saying that Pickett or Rudolph are going to be the next Big Ben, but I am saying that if they get the right support around them, we would actually have a pretty solid team. Get a good center, a good offensive coordinator and a better punter and those couple of things right there would change how our offense looks like quite a bit.

As for the quarterbacks, if Pickett can put his happy feet in a dumpster, his future would be a lot brighter. And for Rudolph, based on his recent play, he just needs to be given a chance.

I really do think that our draft needs to focus on plugging some holes that don't include the quarterback and we should ride with Pickett and Rudolph for the next year. Heck, if we build a good defense and a good offense, and those two don't turn out to be the right guy, we have a team that would then attract a good quarterback providing we have the money.
