Does anybody think Arnfelt has what it takes to crack the starting line up? Being as thin as we are on DE, do you think he has any chance at becoming a starter, or do you think that he is more of a back up, or maybe special teams player at best.

Watching him last pre-season I was impressed with his ability and thought he was a fairly decent player. Thought he might have had a chance at cracking the 53 man out of camp, he was close, and he did get added to the 53 man in December after the injury to Kiesel.

Do you guys have any thoughts, I'm pretty high on this guy. I just like undrafted players and underdogs, you always feel like you get steal when one of them pan out, just like Willie Parker or James Harrison.

    Thoughts?

At the very least, he will be a solid back up but yes, I think he can start. Interested in seeing what he does and on the other side of the line, Embernate, both could end up providing significant contributions.

He just has the look of a prototypical steelers DE.

You can find a gem but I don't get excited about an UDFA

I do with some. Like when I first saw FWP I was like damn this kid might have something. Same thing with Arnfelt. Embernasty is another one. There are three on this team I'm excited about Garvin being the third and he was just a camp invitee.

Arnfelt will be a starter someday, I truly believe that. But I don't think it will be this year. I think he makes the 53 and is a backup and see some time in the rotation.

I do think he's capable and will do well. I've said before, this draft is weak in DE's. if arnfelt and Williams even, were in this class, they would be ranked much higher than they were last year. a guy that's a true 6-5 302 lbs. ran a 4.83 and is smart and did 38 reps, is a perfect fit for us. it's not like they were bad players in college either. I don't really want a DE in this draft until we see what these two bring. even a first rounder is no guarantee that the player is better. ziggy was a first, arnfelt an UDFA, maybe we meet in the middle with a 4th rounder like aaron smith. (see what I did there) LOL:smiley1::cool:

I agree and same with arnfelt. those are arnfelts numbers. he also did 4.55 and 7.77 in quickness drills. those are very good numbers for a 300+ lb. man. he's strong as a bull and has a head on his shoulders. I have high expectations for him. I think he and heyward in this sub package of two down linemen will do well also.

    Heyward
    McLendon
    Thomas
    Keisel
    Williams
    Arnfelt
    Fangupo
    Draft Pick?

I don't see Arnfelt starting more of a backup.

I would hope Williams or Arnfelt could beat out Cam Thomas....

Embernate would have been a high round mock if it wasn't for his injury. Just look at some of his tape and the way he was just nasty with finishing his blocks.

That probably won't happen. Atleast not on opening day.

I just get so fired up talking about Arnfelt. Really excited for the kid. I'll be the first to admit I had not heard about him until we signed him. Still, for paid professional scouts, tell-tale signs were abound. How 31 other teams failed to capitalize on his game tape and pro day workouts amazes me. For those of you not overly familiar with him, enjoy! :herewego:

Also, here's a couple of great articles on him, one with some pre-season footage.

He should get his chance to show if he can play, with the Steelers being thin at DE

Have to give Mac the credit on this one, think he was talking Arnfelt up before we even drafted him.

I'll take credit for Embernate though :smiley1: Still have high hopes for that kid.

I'm just glad we found him. I'd say most of the time you put brains with brawn and athleticism, good things will happen. same with beachum.

hopefully Williams and arnfelt refresh john Mitchell into making them great.

these late draft picks and UDFA's come from our scouts. they have near all the say on them to Colbert I have read. I know I read our old TE mark bruehner (sp?) turned scout was responsible for beachum. I'm not certain (old age) if I remember hearing the same about arnfelt too.

whats worse is if I screwed bruehners name up because he is the one and only jersey that I have. an original game jersey from his rookie year. a starter. expensive back then. it was like 210.00. that was a lot of change for a jersey. anyway I still wear it but never have really looked at the name spelling for years. it's on the back. duh.:lolol:
