I make apple pie moonshine. But living in Pennsylvania I have to travel to Maryland to buy 190 proof everclear. But man is it good. Every once in a while I drink a tad too much of it and end up sleeping downstairs!

Just a note for the obsessive. Mixing ingredients with everclear isn’t making moonshine. Want to make moonshine? Build a still, ferment some grain… PS you can actually make an electric still. That way you don’t have to worry about fire, smoke etc.

Apple pie? No. I’ve never made it. I stick with plain old whisky and age in oak barrels.

To my knowledge people just add apples, pears, blackberries, cherries… to the whisky and that imparts flavor.

S.T.D. here is the recipe I use. I don't manufacture my own grain alcohol. I also substitute 159 proof everclear for the vodka.

    • 1 gallon apple juice

    • 1 gallon apple cider

    • 2 cups white sugar

    • 2 cups brown sugar

    • 4 cinnamon sticks, or more to taste

    • 1 pinch apple pie spice

    • 1 (750 milliliter) bottle 190 proof grain alcohol

    • 1 75o ML Vodka

You boil the apple juice apple cider white sugar and brown sugar along with the apple pie spice until the sugars are completely dissolved. Simmer for at least one hour. You have to let it cool completely so the alcohol isn't evaporated by the heat. Seal in glass jars.

    And there ya go.

you can buy it in liquor stores now. I’ve never tried store bought, but I’m sure it tastes similar. There’s a company out of Tennessee that makes a bunch of different flavored whiskies. If I remember correctly they’re called Smokey mountain distillery. As a general rule I’m not a fan of flavored whisky, but they make a peanut butter and a black berry that’s ridiculous and dangerous. Mix equal parts and it tastes like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Typically I don't like flavored whiskey or store bought "apple pie shines". Too sweet and I like sweet. I've done just about everything but distill my own spirits. It's easy and I've always wanted to, just never got around to it.

The store bought moonshines don't use the amount of everclear I use. I really like the kick that it provides. Just be careful!!!

And way too sweet. There's like literally only 3 ingredients: whiskey, sugar, and peanuts. And maybe not in that order. I think the sugar comes first. ;)

I'm with TTF in that I don't like overly sweet stuff. I DO have a sweet tooth. But when it comes to liquor, they often go overboard. Fine for mixing I suppose, but to drink straight? Cloying and not very enjoyable past the first sip.

If you like peanut butter FLAVORED whiskey (I'll try not to go into the rant yet again that they stop being whiskey the instant anything is added), I suggest Shepard's P'Nutty. GREAT peanut flavor (as in roasted peanuts) and very restrained on the sweetness. That's one even a whiskey purist could enjoy sipping on now and then.

But Screwball does have at least one great use: dropping a shot or so into a heavy chocolate stout. Trust me. :smiley1:

I will see if I can find that in PA. The government run state stores here don't carry everything
