I know it was the Punter, but I love seeing hits like those. I know it will most likely cost him 15-20,000 but man that was nice. Liking what Garvin brings to special teams. Keep it up!!! By the way I think the hit was clean, but the NFL won't.

I think the hit was border line clean also but expect him to be $25 K short in the wallet this week.

Next Bengal game I attend in Cincy I'm going grab a handful of straws and hand them out to Bengals fans in the lot before the game telling them that some player on their team might need it for 6-8 weeks when it's all said and done.

Was at the game for the Hines Ward / Keith Rivers jawbreaker and that was definitely a clean hit until they immediately changed the rule.

He shouldn't get fined for it as it was a legal blindside hit.

Exactly. I really hate that this is the direction we all go to anytime someone has a hard hit.

Well, he did break his jaw with his helmet.... hard to argue that it wasn't a helmet to helmet type hit. It's in-line with the Hines Ward rule instituted a few years ago. I think he gets fined.... or actually.... James Harrison will get fined for the hit :facepalm:

Unfortunate result. His head did snap back pretty hard. I still like the hit, but I fully expect Garvin to be fined.

I feel bad for the guy's injuries, but normally when running forward at full speed, the person looks where they are going instead of over their right shoulder.

There is no doubt he will get fined in my mind. I'm amazed it wasn't an personal foul for leading with the helmet.
While I enjoyed the look of the hit, I don't wish any ill will on any player. Hope Huber makes a full recovery.

I love it when these guys put the hurt on opposing players. But I do not enjoy injuries. Big difference imo.

He probably will get fined, but it's hard to call that leading with his helmet. Most people question whether it was a Hines Ward rule blindside block, and it wasn't. That rule applies when the blocker is facing his endzone, which Garvin was not. What Huber did was walk across a busy freeway looking at the sunset. I agree though, hope he's alright and makes a speedy recovery.

Ray Fittipaldo said it well this morning-

I agree! These vicious hits are one of the things I love about football. That being said, I'm sorry it resulted in injuries for the guy and hope he has a speedy recovery.

I hate to hear that. Could be a career ender for a punter and Huber has been outstanding this season.

I love the good hard hits of yesteryear as well, but by today's NFL standards.... Garvin clearly leads with his head, launches off both feet, and clearly hit the punter on the chin with his helmet. I think punters, kickers and QB's have special rules that consider them defenseless during the entire play. I'd be shocked if it didn't end up with a fine or suspension. Only reason I think he didn't get flagged was maybe because no ref had a clear view. Just my opinion.

Article 7: Players in a Defenseless Posture. It is a foul if a player initiates unnecessary contact against a player who is in
a defenseless posture.
(a) Players in a defenseless posture are:

1. (1) A player in the act of or just after throwing a pass;
2. (2) A receiver attempting to catch a pass; or who has completed a catch and has not had time to protect himself orhas not clearly become a runner. If the receiver/runner is capable of avoiding or warding off the impendingcontact of an opponent, he is no longer a defenseless player;
3. (3) A runner already in the grasp of a tackler and whose forward progress has been stopped;
4. (4) A kickoff or punt returner attempting to field a kick in the air;
5. (5) A player on the ground;
6. (6) A kicker/punter during the kick or during the return (Also see Article 6(g) for additional restrictions against akicker/punter);

Continued...
(b) Prohibited contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture is:
(1) Forcibly hitting the defenseless player’s head or neck area with the helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, evenif the initial contact of the defender’s helmet or facemask is lower than the passer’s neck, and regardless ofwhether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him;or

1. (2) Lowering the head and making forcible contact with the top/crown or forehead/‖hairline‖ parts of the helmetagainst any part of the defenseless player’s body; or
2. (3) Illegally launching into a defenseless opponent. It is an illegal launch if a player (i) leaves both feet prior tocontact to spring forward and upward into his opponent, and (ii) uses any part of his helmet (including thetop/crown and forehead/‖hairline‖ parts) to initiate forcible contact against any part of his opponent’s body. Note:This does not apply to contact against a runner, unless the runner is still considered to be a defenseless player,as defined in Article 7 above.

I wasn't aware that a punter who is in the field of play attempting to stop a returner is considered 'defenseless'. Also, it's not clear to me that he 'launched' or 'used his crown'.

What really sucks is that if he doesn't make that play the punter is in a position to at least slow him up.

Exactly! If a punter is now considered defenseless then he has no business trying to make a tackle. Kick the ball and hit the sideline sissy boy.

Defenseless means that unnecessary contact is illegal. Since Huber was going for a tackle, Garvin blocking him is legit. And the block was in front, which Huber would have seen if he wasn't spaced out by ABrown.

On the other hand, the rules do state that helmet contact for defenseless players is a no-no, so I expect Garvin to be fined for that.

TTF I don't think he gets fined. I see it as sticking his face mask in his chest
Reading the bunghole board last night (Can't post there. My IP is banned for life, go figure) They will go gorilla di*k is he is not fined. I want to read those whines

Besides if TG Don't block him he tackles Brown
