I just watched an interview with Hollywood Henderson where he said he done cocaine DURING Super Bowl 13! Is this common knowledge and do you think any Steeler players ever done that? I figured some of you old timers might have heard of things like this but this was one piece of Super Bowl 13 trivia I had certainly never heard!

    yes they did

    and

    a lot of them

watch "cocaine cowboys" and they tell you yes

I always bring up 12-88 on this topic because he was there and so were others butt he was 6 yrs old maybe
and Miami at that time was awesome and beautiful for a little while

I always argued that the Steelers had the best COCAINE and not steroids in those days

Stanley Wilson for the Bengals was discovered missing from the morning meeting during the SB back in 1989 to which his RB coach found him face down on the bathroom floor with his nose covered in the white substance. To which Jim Anderson replied "Oh stanley". Sam wyche was none too happy and he never played a down. Stanley Wilson is currently serving a 22 yr prison sentence for armed robbery.

But for a guy to say he did it DURING the game is just insane. There were some partying Steelers I know but if the NFL was that permissive in those days to where they didn't really reign in players you'd have to wonder if other players didn't do that kind of thing. I know that Dwight White said that he was extremely hungover during Super Bowl 9 when he scored the first Steelers Super Bowl points ever.

I heard that story a long time ago about Henderson using cocaine during that time.

I had never heard that before and really couldn't believe it. The sad thing is that he really had a pretty good game there and he even sacked Bradshaw too didn't he? Well I guess now we know why. LOL.

I've heard that Henderson story, too.

I used to go to a "Gold's" type gym years ago, and the guys who were HUGE were said to be fond of cocaine. Some admittedly so.

Look, I'd like to believe that the Steelers have a clean and fair history, but I personally believe that higher level football in general supports a culture of drug use.

I'd say you're definitely right because when you look at how many guys get busted for smoking pot or failing drug tests I'd say there's quite a bit of guys that do at LEAST pot. Didn't a majority of players just say they want marijuana to be used for pain? Does anyone know if any Steelers players said that?

His official reason for it was that he had a huge scab in his nose that he could only numb it by using liquid cocaine. He said it's a huge regret though.

I promise that's what he said was the actual "reason" for it! He said he had some crazy problem with his septum in his nose. I just wonder how he GOT that scab??? LOL!

It just sounds like, "the only way I could make the pain in my vein go away was by using heroin."

Yeah I think it's an excuse also. He really did sound contrite about it though and said he put his mom through a lot and said that the Cowboys franchise deserved better than that. I just really wouldn't be surprised if some of the 70s Steelers had done some of that too.

If we are honest with ourselves, I think we all know that the 70's Steelers used performance enhancing drugs.

I always regretted it after I crashed too! Scab in the nose eh? Sounds reasonable. I wonder if he and Irvin became friends?

Are you referring to cocaine as a ped or do you mean something else? Also there was a picture during the interview of him tackling Mel Blount. What play did that happen on because why would the be on the field at the same time?

I think the 70's Steelers took whatever they could get their hands on (like everyone else.) I have no idea what play would have Henderson tackling Blount...Could it be on a kickoff?

Did Blount return kicks? Dungy did right because he fumbled one in that game didn't he?

No, he didn't but since I don't know did he pick up the fumble?

Maybe that's what happened. It's been a couple of years since I watched that game.

I have read reports that Lawrence Taylor was always "coked-up" during games. I think that kind of thing is more common that people imagine. When I played the only PEDs I could get my hands on were Milk Duds. They pumped me up big time as I ran out on the field. I was usually the first one to crash through the paper banner. Problem was that I would crash before kick-off. I guess that really doesn't classify as PEDs does it?

Yeah, he's been pretty open about it over the years. If I remember correctly he was doing it on the field.
