Duck and Mason were benched in 2019 when Ben was injured, another instance of Tomlin changing QBs.

I'll take your word for it, not going back to look at that horrible time. My memory of it was Duck getting the start because Mason was still getting over the concussion so he was backup then Duck got his bell rung and in goes Mason. But seems like my day to be wrong.

No, he's not getting benched the rest of the season. IMO the last 7 games are going to guide them on what to do in the offseason. If he shows no improvement, I think they start looking at contingency plans. If he does, he's their starter next year and maybe beyond.

They invested a number one pick in him, so they're going to give him every opportunity to grow into their franchise QB. For you "Whatabout Mason'ers" this is why he's got a much longer leash than Mason. And for clarity because I know someone will make a comment...I don't like how Mason was handled. I think he got a raw deal.

Also, don't expect immediate improvement on Sunday. I expect better play, but I don't expect 400 yards and 30 points.

Good news is Kenny will not be facing the Brown's D-Line this week.

I can agree with this. I see a guy who's lost all of his confidence and playing scared, so I think with Canada still here, he'd benefit from sitting a while.
With him gone, Im thinking (hoping) he'll gain some of it back.

would you like me to spell it out for you?

I’ll compare it to baseball to simplify it for you.

say starting pitcher walks 15 batters in a row, you gonna keep that pitcher in or you gonna switch him out to at least see if you can get better results from someone else?

If He wasn't a 1st round pick they probably would...., but as We have seen with the majority of 1st round picks through the history of the Steelers...they will Keep giving him chances. I was actually seeing little baby steps from him...until about 2 weeks ago. The last two games He hasn't progress much...which is crazy because the running game did. It should have made it easier.

He should be given every opportunity to at least be adequate

At least until a better option is available

Would he bench the o-line when they suck? The back ups probably suck worse, otherwise they would start.

The way I heard it, the team wanted Canada gone, so I don't think your read on the situation is accurate.

That's what I've been talking about, that he seemed to be seeing things better, but his accuracy was just atrocious against the Titans. Then he regressed even more. Maybe his confidence really is shot. I'm not sure how else to explain the regression.

Rudolph was knocked out of the lineup against the Ravens, but he was also benched due to poor play later that season.

To answer the OP, no, I don't think they will have Pickett on a short leash. I think they want to see what he can do without Canada getting in the way. I also don't think they have much faith in Trubisky or Rudolph.

How many times have Mitch and Mason gone in there and proven that we will go nowhere with them? I mean this is easy to see. It’s a total waste of time to go to either of them. You open things up from here on in for Kenny and give him the rest of the year and then if he’s still struggling, you look at options to find another qb1 not named Mitch or Mason.

If Pickett is something like 5 for 14 and and 58 yard at halftime and has clearly missed a few wide open receivers cause he only goes to his first reads then I’m sending in either Mitch or Mason. I don’t need to waste my Sunday afternoon watching him go 14 for 33 and 112 yards with no Int’s or fumbles cause he’s being over protective. I have supported KP since the day he was drafted but what happened to preseason Kenny where he looked really good? Were the defenses really that vanilla or is he concussed beyond repair now? Hopefully he wakes up this week with a new OC calling the shots.

Yeah, they kind of have to give him 7* more games. It will help to know where they stand on him come draft day.

    *wouldn't mind 8+;)

This. What message does it send to the other players? I can play poorly and still get on the field. Yes, the QB gets a lot more sway because it's the toughest position in football. But at some point, poor play is poor play and cannot be rewarded with continued snaps.

And then Tomlin tried to bench Duck against the Jets for poor play, Mason came in and got injured, then Duck had to finish out the season IIRC.
