not sure what's up but I read gay was also still learning some safety at camp. same as last year. I can't imagine we would need him at safety with all we have. unless we are keeping an extra corner and not an extra safety.

I think golden is in a fight with will allen and brice McCain. Richardson should make it. devin smith could be in the hunt and green also has made some signs of life.

I've heard will allen just looks slow, but he knows the defense. can troy make another full season? will allen has rarely made a full season. both of these guys are nearing the end of their careers too.

I could see down the line cortez and Richardson as the starters and Mitchell and Thomas as the safety starters. blake to eventually be our deshea townsend/William gay of the future too.

can golden be that new will allen, as the main backup safety? can McCain be the 4th CB? smith or green, do they factor in anywhere? the new kid might have some say so before it's over.

stay tuned fans, it's like most other positions, it will be a dog fight. I can't wait to see them taking this fight to other teams. would should see some good football this preseason because of it. they all seem to be bring what they have. :smiley1:

I meant battling him for the #3 spot, not a roster spot. And I don't think Blake is there yet, I just think that out of the two possibilities that he either moves up to #3, or gets cut, the former is more likely. If it does happen though, it probably won't be until next year.

I agree. It's also why I've had Zumwalt on the PS all along. Spence isn't going anywhere, Williams is too valuable, and they really love Garvin. We are stacked there.

Yes, despite 10,700 posts, I don't have a photographic memory of the 53. I started a thread on it and still can't tell you without looking at it. I'll take a look tonight when I have more time.

I don't know how you make that statement about Brice's camp when they are only into a week.

I'm not sure of anything when it comes to who is making the roster, only reporting that Lake and DL specifically avoided drafting the position earlier because of these two guys. Would be a pretty dumb plan if they weren't sure of them.

I had 55, was carrying 6 receivers with Moye and 9 LB's with Zumwalt. I sent Zumwalt to the PS and cut Moye to get to 53. Ask me again before the season starts and if McCain isn't doing well, I'll cut him and put Moye or Zumwalt back on depending on how they are doing. If all of them are having a good camp, tough choice. I'd hate to cut Moye, as it would leave them a little thin but don't know how comfortable I'd be leaving Zumwalt on the PS. Can cut McCain, but then I think that position would be a little thin.

IIRC some reviews of how top 1 2 or 3rd CB draft choices of the past several years did showed very poor results. Actually in many cases the results were dismal. I could not find any of those articles so I took a look for myself.

    2009 --- CB rankings are from advancedfootballanalytics.com formerly advancednflstats.c

#14 Malcolm Jenkins 2013/ 70 2009- he has had a few good years though
#36 Alphonso Smith Not Rated in 09 [they only go up to 100] in 2010 with Det 33 not too bad
    #41 Darius Butler-----------34---------31
#42 Jairus Byrd ranked as Safety not bad
#59 Sherrod Martin also ranked as Safety not bad
#61 Sean Smith------------42----------54 57 in 2010 very hopes for him not realized

    2013
    Dee Milliner
    Alabama #9 54

    D.J. Hayden
    Houston #12 98

    Desmond Trufant
Washington #22 14 not bad and this is the one I thought the least of

    Xavier Rhodes
Florida State #25 78 hmm and this was my choice of the bunch. I better stick to Monday Morning QBing

It's been similar to that for years. Sure a few emerge as outstanding. But really not many.

The point, if any, is CB is a tough position to draft.

Hey! That was fun. Let's try another year.

    2012
    Morris Claiborne
LSU #6 102 guess they do go over 100 that was in 2013 his 2nd year

    Stephon Gilmore
    South Carolina #10 73 hey they're improving

    Dre Kirkpatrick
Alabama #17 90 Now I'm starting to not believe this. Very likely good CB's are being found later.

Damn! Somebody go find Curtis Brown---bring him back.:smiley1:
