This is the narrative the Steelers are pushing to justify the trade. I have no doubt that report about teams being wary of trading for Steelers' wide receivers was leaked by the team. They know how bad this looks.

How is it worse? The comp pick would have been for the 2027 draft. They need the draft capital in 2026 if they want to trade up for a franchise QB. Who gives a **** about 2025? There is no chance of a SB in 2025 without a QB, which right now, is nothing but backups.

They got a higher, more valuable, 3rd round pick in the 2026 draft, plus a 5th round in 2027. They got rid of a cancer, and frankly, if it makes them worse in 2025 so be it, improves the draft position even more.

They could have gotten that third-rounder as a comp pick and had Pickens this year. Instead, they got worse for almost nothing in return. We are still going to have to watch the offense suck again for a full season. Getting so little for Pickens isn't swinging for the fences. It is quitting.

They should have traded Pickens to the Saints, who desperately need WR help, straight up for Spencer Rattler, since the Steelers desperately need QB help. ???

He's only worth a 1st or 2nd in the eyes of Steelers fans. If you take a step back and try and look at him objectively, he has 1st round talent and a 7th round attitude.

Third-rounders aren't going to move you up high enough to get a franchise quarterback. The point is they got minimal value for a player. Accepting less than a second-round pick for Pickens is a failure.

You just keep piling up the poor arguments. Did you see the way the offense fell apart without him at the end of last season? Did you see how they struggled all season with only one viable starter? The guy is a top-15 receiver at least and they traded him for peanuts. They quit on a season in May. How are you okay with that?

    1) Yes, it does. Especially in cases like this where a player is clearly a lot better than where drafted. It’s almost better because you know what you’re getting for pick. I don’t have time or care enough but if somebody added up yards/TDs from WRs in his draft and 1 year before/after I imagine it would exemplify how bad this is. Factoring he’s had terrible QBs as well. We got a 1st for Claypool..

2+3) The never ending rebuild because they don’t commit and it’s half assed. Because we need to be average enough to squeak out 9-7-1 seasons for somebody…

So if we are in rebuild mode and next year drafting QB… I predicted this years ago… But why aren’t we trading Watt?

This roster is nowhere near Top 5 drafted QB plug and win Super Bowl in 2-3 years.

So Watt will be 34-35 when realistically we are maybe competitive? Who has injuries every year and if you compare injury histories/career to his brother…

It sucks you’d want him to be a lifer… But this is professional sports in 2025. Championships or loyalty. You choose the latter and we end up like the Penguins.

Sooner Watt traded means better haul. Which imo should guarantee a Top 1-2 QB in draft class. Which improves the odds of said rebuild drastically.

Apparently it made more sense to draft a #4 low ceiling Edge rusher than it did a #2 WR in Elic Ayomanor or Jalen Royals in the 4th??

We don't even know who is going to declare for the draft yet.

I am not saying Pickens doesn't have issues, he clearly does and your not wrong about his decision making, but he has enough talent that defenses have to account for him. Part of his lack of TD's is due to having QB's that can't hit the broadside of a barndoor.

My issue is we will now line up some untalented schlep as our #2 WR allowing teams to easily take away DK Metcalf in our unsophisticated scheme with a questionable QB. I am okay with trading Pickens, but at least win the trade.

If the goal is to tank for a QB in 2026, then this is an outstanding move.

I would have loved to watch how teams would defend against Pickens and Metcalf, In todays NFL you should have either great coaching like Chiefs, Minnesota etc. or have two good receivers like the Bengals with Chase and Higgins. Now we have neither, great coaching or two good receivers.

You are hilarious to think we should’ve got a 2rd pick for this headcase. Be thankful there was a team that offered us a 3 rd.

I really did like Ayomanor and wanted to draft him .
I mean its only May, hopefully they get another good WR in here before camp.

Plax, Emmanuel Sanders, and AB all won Super Bowls. Bell and Juju won Super Bowls and yes, they did nothing but still. Dotson looks solid.

The days of players leaving and most likely being bust are OVER!

This was real before Tomlin because we drafted better and had a coach who could actually coach. So they’d look good then suck elsewhere.

Now it’s the complete opposite… We suck at drafting and coaching is terrible. We hold players back so when they leave now sometimes they have a new lease on life.

Proof in the pudding… Predicted all this years ago so I’ve been immune to all their terrible decisions for years. Everyone have a blessed day tho! ✌️

So, you are ok with a player that won’t block, won’t play if not involved in play, take numerous stupid personal penalties and has the mentality of a 7 yr old? You do know this also was the case in Ga? And guess what? He wasn’t a #1 wr there either.

No team was going to give up a second round pick for Pickens with him being a free agent after the season.
