I thought James would go a little sooner. He's got a lot of upside. 6'7", 261. Versatile big guy who can pass protect.

From the stats he seems a bit similar to Spaeth - is the comparison justified?

I can't wait to see 6'7" James go up against 5'8" Golson in minicamp. Probably won't happen, Golson wasn't brought in to cover tight ends. How tall is A.J. Green?

I agree sir. And you know what...Ole Jesse can't even legally take a drink yet to celebrate. Yes, that 6ft, 7, 261Lb TE is not even 21 yet. I mean talk about a guy who can even get bigger and stronger then he already is....Wow!!

I dont normally say this about a steeler draft pick on first look because I am a die hard fan but...... MEH .....

    He has potential ok....

nothing exciting to see here. I will hope for a Matt Spaeth level of performance but he has light years to go to get that good a blocking ....

At 20 years old....Nothing to see ? In a system at PSU that was totally lost, and never used him correctly at all...which is probably why he left there. Nothing to see ?.......Get your eyes checked sir.

Pretty decent blocker already, wouldn't say light years and he is very willing, half the battle.

And going in the 5th round, he made a big mistake leaving Penn State. If he had staid one more year he would have gone higher and made more money.

If they didn't get the Williams kid, this was their next TE on the board I'd bet.

Ben will like this target especially deep in the red zone, read where his catches can be inconsistent at times but fixable. Welcome to Steel city JJ.

He needs work, thats for sure:

[h=4]STRENGTHS[/h] Long frame with room for more muscle. Flashed some straight-line speed in space. Shows a feel for when he comes open in the seam and will turn quickly to find the throw. Can make the occasional spectacular, one-handed catch. Works to the open space against zone coverage. Not content to stand in space. Continues to maneuver around within his area to uncover and present an open target to the quarterback. Can go up and over smaller defenders in red zone as a split end.[h=4]WEAKNESSES[/h] Sluggish off the release and runs somewhat labored and mechanical routes, getting very limited separation against man coverage. Play demeanor lacks desired fire and aggressiveness. Does just enough as a run blocker. Doesn't handle power and movement in space as well as he needs to as a blocker. Gets hung up against jams at line of scrimmage and against physical defenders within his routes. Will try to run through defender rather than adjusting route. Inconsistent adjusting to poorly thrown balls and making the tough catch.[h=4]DRAFT PROJECTION[/h] Round 5 or 6

This is the one pick I just don't like. You can't teach height, but he needs a lot of work. Did some reading and the guy was pretty much told to stay in school by most of those in the biz. I felt like he was a reach when we took him, and I have a hard time believing he will be any better than a UDFA. If he ever catches a TD pass, and doesn't do the "double pistol bang bang" with his hands I will be utterly disappointed.

LOL, he is just 20 though. That size and talent he's shown with the crap offense Penn State put on the field, can only get better. He's not done growing yet and they'll put strength on him to boot.

Not a fan of this pick. Slow, mechanical, almost robot like.

    Hope I wrong.

Great article sir, thanks. I will take it a step further, although there is nothing really wrong with Max " Factor " Williams......my new nickname for him now that he is a hated Ratbird ....but remember, in James only 40 at Indy it was reported by Ian Rappaport that James had a slight Claf pull. Then about 6 weeks later at his Pro Day on what is considered a slow Penn State field...not one of those rubberized tracks that say Ohio State uses...James ran in the 4.6's range in both his 40 yard dashes.

But his great flexibility and agility is what surprised me. And when you consider this kids Bench strength for his long arms and still developing body at 20 years old...yeah, I can definitely see the HUGE untapped upside of this kid.

    Again...no disrespect for....

    Max....[IMG]

Yeah that bench press number is pretty impressive considering his length. And running a 4.6 at his size is also no joke! I'm excited to see what he (and Blanchflower year 2) can do for us.
