The Steelers are having Free Agent Safety James Sanders in for a visit today. Sanders played for the Cardinals last season, and played for the Patriots from 2005-2010. Expect to see some cheap FA safeties coming in for visits with Mundy and Allen gone.

Not surprising they'll look to add at least 1 vet FA safety for depth.

I've heard of Sanders...don't know a ton about him...he'd probably be an OK backup like Allen was/etc.

Welcome to the new face of free agency. It is looking like the NBA and MLB-without the ridiculous salaries. Guys shuffling around the league so often due to the salary cap, you'll need a scorecard and a real-time roster app! Oh, I forgot hockey. "What? How long has (fill in player's name) been here (or been gone)?

I'm pretty sure he played for Patriots for a while too during their Super Bowl years or close to it.

I remember him when he played for the pats and I think it would be a good signing considering our lack of safeties. I have a buddy who is a pats fan talk him up as a solid player. I'm now watching the pats vs ravens from 2007 and he's definitely a good tackler. Also seems like I remember him being all over the place in some of the pats battles with the colts back in the day.

why did they let him go? why is BA letting him go? doesn't seem like it would have taken much money to keep him. just wondering, if your buddy has any insight on that.

i can't remember him but a couple of years ago the pats were like we were last year, looking for someone that could play. there was quite the turnover of db's for them that year and if he was one of the better ones why they didn't re-sign him. thanks.

Easy killer im not saying he should come here and make starter money. All i did was mention his name to a buddy who is a pats fan and he said he always liked him and said he played hard. And as far as the pats and cards letting him go I dont know, players come and go, thats just how it is. The pats have let alot of db's go over the years. Why did they let guys like Asante Samuel, Merryweather, Chung walk? Just a depth signing is as far as i was looking into him.

I'm sorry man I guess I did take it the wrong way. I can only go by what I saw from him when he was in NE so I don't really know if he's lost a few steps since then. I did read an interview belechek did where he said he was really disappointed to see him go and he loved his effort and he was a good teammate. I know this draft is deep at safety but I really would feel better if we had a vet back there also. All that said Mac, are there any quality vet safety's that you would like to see come in to play behind Troy and Ryan even if we do draft a couple of safeties?

to be honest, i really think cromartie-smith will get a shot at it this year. he's been around here for 3 years now. he should know the system by now and has shown a flash or two. i think we will have to keep him around as the most veteran backup we have. i like golden too in year two. add a top flight guy from the draft and we should be fine. at least barring major injury.
