The team has offered tenders to Blake, Golden, and Will Johnson. These are low round tenders worth $1.542 Mil. They wouldn't get compensated if they were signed away, but will have the right of first refusal.

I read somewhere (not sure if it was a legit site) that mentioned they were not planning on offering Blake anything, so this is a nice development for me. I really like Blake, and think he can become something. The playing time he got this year should be a nice springboard for next year. Guy isn't afraid of contact and has the athleticism to stick in the hip pocket of any WR out there.

I too saw it a number of places saying people wouldn't be shocked if they didnt tender any of them...and then they became regular FA's...THEN they would try to work out a longer term deal with them.

Who knows this could have been the plan...but they found out the market for a couple of them was bigger than they though (at least for Blake) and then they decided to tender them. Hopefully they can work out a longer term deal with them and lower their cap numbers this year. Especially with Golden...he is right now just a ST ace...and thats a good bit of money to pay for that. Blake I don't mind paying that much for though.

Speaking of Blake...its funny when they first claimed him and such...people were like "yay another scrub" and such...but he turned out to be decent so far (Lake probably helped with that). I'd personally like to see what BW Webb can do too.

Yeah, I'm getting a bit tired of arguing for this every year... we know from the play-offs that we need a guy in the backfield who can run and pass block, and we know that WJ can be reasonably effective as a receiver as well.

So either sign him and use him, or pick up a guy who fits whatever Haley wants to do with that position better...

I can see why they're resigning Golden as a matter of course, but perhaps there's an added need to have some proven depth at safety secured, given we don't know what's happning with Troy?

Golden is a special teams standout as well as Blake. How at times we forget that special teams are forgotten but just as important. Smart to tender them . Blake did contribute on Defense and with another year can only have upside. Will J for depth and special teams. Gets a token spot on offense once in a while...

as far as I'm concerned, golden never should have been tendered. way too many special teams only guys being kept around. if they have to step in at a position we are in deep chit. garvin, golden, Dangerfield are not the depth we need on gameday. none are going to be anything but special teams players and we need better depth for a position. this is just another limitation for us of having some players that could eventually move up into a starting role someday. it leaves us having to hit or completely miss on draft picks as starters or the next man up. that's quite the gamble. we are also gambling a lot on blake being a quality future player at CB. maybe they know McCain could be gone and this is another panic type move before we are completely left high and dry.
