maybe the clock struck twelve and it was time

    this rules out Tomlin(clock management)

Seems to me that if Sarrett is named the OL coach, that will confirm this. If he is not, then we may or may not ever know the true reason for his firing.

If they promote Sarrett then this decision makes sense. If not, I'll be scratching my head..

I never said they used it exclusively. just that we did run it after pouncey went down.

that's quite interesting since the OC wanted it.

tomlin over ruled him and scraped it for the most part.

ben raises heck about the play calling last year and even went as far as using verbage of the former OC during a game.

they took apart TH's playbook and the former playbook and condensed it as one during the offseason.

now the OLine coach gets fired.

my question is, what the heck does todd haley do? MT and ben have made all the changes to todds offense and he's still here. why?

are they sure it was sarrett taking over? he's pretty young and has only been an assistant for a few years even at duke. seems pretty quick to come in and take over an nfl O-line. sort of like Colbert kid became an intern and now is a scout. hmmmm.

james Daniel our TE coach however was a long time O-line coach. head scratcher for sure.

Haley's offense is having Ben put up points. It's very balanced. I don't know why some people can't see that.

I'm saying, they don't do anything todd's offense brought here. they have changed nearly everything about it. why have him if they are not going to use what he wants to use?

I guess I understand what you are saying but don't have any insider information in order to answer that question.

If what people are saying is that the guy was replaced halfway thru the season then he was being ineffective and needed to be replaced.

    I have two thoughts.

They will promote from within immediately or have Russ Grimm interview at a later date.

Tomlin might want to take note. JMHO.

They were 16th in scoring and 20th in yardage. By definition this is average.

But getting better. They are improving if you look at the actual timeline from day 1.

My question is who is responsible for
    evaluating OL and selecting them
    for the last 7 years?

Ben gets rid of the ball faster then I can ever remember, I think that's a direct result of Haley. And Haley is the one desinging plays so there is that too.

Not over the second half of the season, they were closer to 4th, averaging around 30 points a game.

Yeah, I'm just going from the reports that Sarrett was doing a lot of the coaching and game planning. If this is true, then this move only makes sense if they promote him to OL coach IMO. The o-line made to many improvements to scrap was has been gained now.

True. Wasn't one of Haley's strengths supposed to be being able to adjust his offensive strategy to what he has to work with? Now few seem to want to give him any credit. It seems to me him and Ben are on the same page and thats a good thing ,no? As effective the no huddle is ,it can't be run exclusively. All I know is the O has looked the best it has in a long time and I don't think one guy can get all the credit, just like one guy shouldn't get all the blame. I for one am hoping to see what one more year with them on the same page can do.

An all pro center that was ranked 70th of 75 centers in preseason play by Pro Football Focus. Perhaps this is one of the reason Bicknell is looking for a new job?

I just wonder if they just scrapped the ZBS for now with the way Bicknell was teaching it? will they try it with a better O-line coach? a guy that has run it with much more success?

Not to mention that the Steelers can turtle with just a 3 or 7 point lead, which lowers scoring. Compare that to Denver, New England, or Green Bay, where the offense tend to keep the foot on the pedal even with a three touchdown lead.

I have been a Steel fan a very long time and it would seem this has been the case for oh so many years. Cowher played not to lose all the time and it seems as though Tomlin does the same thing only Cowher was a much better clock manager then Tomlin.

we don't have the defense for it anymore. the league has strapped defenses so much, it's hard to play it that way anymore. maybe sitting on a 3 TD lead now compared to 1.

Mac, I value your opinion but I think you're dead wrong on this. Haley's offensive system is as different as night and day compared to BA's. It's a much more quick hitting offense that enables Ben to get rid of the ball, does a good job of integrating the passing game into the running game, disguises pass routes at the LOS and uses tight formations to allow receivers to break free more effectively. Haley has also done a nice job of bringing the screen back and implementing short, quick hitting patterns that allows his quick receivers enough space to break free. He's done a tremendous job of getting the most out of Cotchery and did the same with Heath before he was injured last year. And best of all, he's giving Ben some freedom to call plays at the LOS utilizing his offensive architecture and THAT is the best news of all because it keeps Ben active and engaged in the process!

Freak, how come he gets a free pass?
I asked this of all the message board
members a couple of weeks back, why
    do they love him? Why?
