Personally with the injuries I didn't think he did an awful job with the O-Line. Wonder who will coach the line now?

Wow I thought he did a good job with the make shift line line...look at all the shifting around ..

A center off the street... a center from the practice squad 2 LTs ... Losing an all pro center in week one...youngest offensive line in the league to start the year and the back-ups played well when called upon... guess that is why the front office does their job and I am a teacher...

Just when I thought the O_line was finally coming together.

Any body think Russ Grimm will be asked to come back?

    Would he entertain the idea?

A couple of thoughts: 1) Could scheme be a reason? I wonder if we are going to fully scrap our half-attempt at shifting to a ZBS. 2) As well as the line came together, with guys like Beechum and Wallace making strides, could they be blaming the lack of development by Adams (and really Gilbert as well) on Bicknell?

    Yea. What was I thinking?
Who would want a Hall of Famer O-Line coach with 4 Superbowl rings?

I don't think Russ with ever come back to the Steelers, I think he feels slighted after Tomlin got hired instead of him.

Reportedly Tomlin made the call to fire him. Like TTF said, he wanted to go in a different direction. Personally, for whatever reason, I thought the o-line did a great job turning things around. Perhaps that's the issue? Maybe we moved away from his schemes and went a different direction mid season?

that's a good point. only problem with that is that it suggests that tomlin actually coaches and we all know he is incapable of making a decision like that:smiley1:

I'm shocked about the move. I thought he was the MVP of the coaching staff for the job he did. Tells me what I know. I guess I better stick with training soldiers.

yea he was a good player and deserved those rings and HOF for playing. we have a lot of guys from here with 4 SB rings and are in the HOF, but it doesn't make them good O-line coaches.

This kind of implies to me that we went 0-4 with the ZBS. We went back to what we knew over the last half of the season...and it worked. Tomlin saw the disconnect and made the change.

we ran the ZBS later in the year also. that's why I talk about foster being too fat to do it. he chased his man across the field 3 steps behind him. they need a guy that can match the players up as a unit and to the scheme.

My thoughts exactly. In fact....isn't that exactly what happened? At least the ZB experiment.

This is exactly what I think happened. And I'm not shocked he got the ax. If Russ could ever get past the thought that he felt the Rooneys lied to him, maybe he would come back. I don't think he has a job now.

Guess they are scrapping the zbs. I'm a little bothered by this in the sense they will have a new coach yet again, theres absolutely no continuity with this line.

I have an eye for a lot, but I realize there are many things those that "know" see that I don't. One is the zone blitz. I see other teams do it, but rarely saw the Steelers do it. I wondered if injuries and poor play nixed it early in the season. I missed the first game, and a few others, usually do to my National Guard duty. Anyhow, when I see other teams do it, is seems pretty obvious. So, I always wondered why I didn't see the Steelers do it.

If what has been said on here is valid, that the poor offensive start was in part to the new scheme, and they went back to the old way, then I guess his influence was negligible. Seems to me, he's the proxy for the poor season. I just would have thought that a defensive coach would have taken the axe. Maybe out of respect for DL, they will wait 2 weeks or so before making any such move on the defensive side. I know there has been some discussion about Tomlin being hands off with the defense because of Lebeau. The thought has been brought up that when DL retires, Tomlin will take a more active role in the D then.

They're saying on 970 Pittsburgh sports talk that they abandoned the ZBS after Pouncey went down. This seems to contradict what was said about Valasco trying to teach the other linemen. Also said the assistant OL coach was making the calls.
