It all starts at the TOP. Who is in charge here, you REALLY have to scratch your head here.

Take Troy P for instance, he has a habit of sacrificing his body to fly through the air. Do we really want him risking injury on a field goal attempt? What is the risk versus reward for this play? Didn't Billecheat get a star player injured on a field goal last year?

Troy P is often out there on FGs, isn't he? I remember a few roughing the kicker penalties called on him.

As for the rest... dunno. It does seem odd that we've invested in ST specialists (well... chosen some FAs on that ground at least) and then not used them.

Blocked FG could be the difference between a win and a loss, a win or loss could be the difference between a playoff spot. Really don't think this is such a big deal, how often do people get hurt on FG attempts anyway. We have AB returning kicks right now, I think that is far more risky.

I'm guessing it has something to do with tendencies by the Titans and it being a close game(in score). The Steelers were struggling offensively and the coaches were trying to make sure it didn't get blown wide open by a fake. As far as Brown being used on punt returns goes that's fine too. If he gives us the best opportunity for a big return then by all means go for it. YOu don't hear anyone crying about using Welker as a punt returner. It wouldn't surprise me if Wheatpm is transitioned in the role once he's a little more comfortable.

when your offense cant score, 3 points means a lot. it Troy or Timmons or another starter can make a block that could be the game for this team.

I can't see saving a player for another time in the game. I know the Steelers are having trouble now with injuries. We are all aware of them and thinking what can we do to prevent more but players are getting paid to play in any situation to win the game and as close as games are played today, I can understand putting your best players in to prevent any kind of score.

I see what you all are saying, but let's be honest. If Troy P gets hurt on a damn extra point, I think everyone on this board isn't saying, "Well we were trying to prevent any type of score.".

Almost a guarantee the first words out are "Why was he in there for that crap?".

Field goals and the extra point. My bad, the article showed it though. Kind of lost in translation, since there was only one of those.

I think this shows how important every game is to the team is this year and not much faith in our offense to recover from a 3 point lead.

Yeah, don't think I'd have them out there for EP's but FG's I don't have a problem with it.

Here's a statement from Troy P after he suffered the knee injury a few years back.

Polamalu was injured when Titans tight end Alge Crumpler fell on him after Aaron Smithblocked a Rob Bironas field-goal attempt in the second quarter. Asked if it was normal to be on special teams, Polamalu said, "Our defense is always [out on a field goal attempt], our whole defense."

Me, too!! That makes me SOO nervous. I really wish they would put someone else back there. Luckily, he calls for a fair catch more often than not.
