This really sucks! I think we were gonna see big things from this kid...he would have gotten a bunch of playing time. which, says a lot as a rookie linebacker for Pittsburgh Steelers. With Foote being 50years old and not great player in his prime (if he had 1) i think Spence would have been starting by mid season. if not, at least rotating and keeping the other guys fresh. if we have anymore LB injuries we could be in trouble.. i think losing will be a bigger deal than Decastro as the season moves along//JMO

All injuries definely plague this team and its extremely unfortunate.. I dont mean to play the role of devils advocate but I honestly think Spence was just average and very new to the system. He is very undersized. Hopefully as he progresses and heals he spends time in the weight room.. The kid has amazing instincts .. He just seems to know where the ball is at all times.

What are the chances he never plays again?

Eh? Bit extreme, isn't that? Or am I missing something about the injury?

Busman - I agree we didn't see much spectacular from him, but a) Lebeau's defenses are notorious for keeping rookies quiet, and b) I always figured they would develop him into a hybrid role if he had the talent level, over a few seasons. So I'm not too worried about his play up until the injury.

he's the type of kid that will work hard to get back. he was a good pick. as much as i saw him around the ball all preseason bodes well. he may not of always made the play but he was there in the right position. he will get that more under control as he plays more. no worry about him coming back mentally.

I see high picks in ILB, OLB, safety in our draft future.

In 1975 the chance of never playing again would have been high but with today's advances he should be able to return.

You can easily come back from just an ACL or just an MCL, I'm not sure of the extent of this injury, but if it was something more devastating, he might not ever be the same. It sure didn't look good on the replay.

Dante Culpepper damage 4 ligaments on one hit, and that was pretty much it for him....

I really hope the kid can come back 100% next year.

With that said....I saw nothing that said he was going to do anything but ST unless injury bug hit.

The Steelers liked him ALOT, he was definatley going to see some playing time.
How much? Who is to know? Think the Steelers are growing tired of Sly,when he comes back off his
injury, he really needs to step up his game, or it may be too late? We are extremely thin of talent @ILB.

I thought that someone was gonna say it was a big loss because of the position he was drafted for.He was supposed to be that hybrid linebacker that had a nose for the ball. Could blitz or go out in coverage with te or rb which in turn would give troy the freedom to roam and do his thing. We will miss this kid when teams spread us out.

Good points. I do remember though that Culpepper was considered fat and lazy by some and he refused to rehab at the team facility and rehabbed at home instead.
