No update for Spaeth. Coach T says he's "currently being evaluated in Pittsburgh", but will have an update later.

Damn that makes it sound like it might be a pretty bad injury.

Yeah, that makes it sound like we might be counting on David Paulson and David Johnson, assuming he gets healthy, until we get Heath back.

There's been more season ending injuries in this first week of camp this year than in the past, some coaches blame it on the new CBA rules eliminating contact during OTAs and the limited pad practice allowed in camp, already twenty players are done for the season, and the first preseason game hasn't even been played, you think the softer practice schedules are back firing on the rules makers????

Well, the headline did say "carted off" ............ It does kinda suggest a different image.

I'm guessing signing another TE today means bad news for Spaeth's ankle.

Yeah. When Tomlin said he was "being evaluated in Pittsburgh" earlier, I knew that was not a good sign. :(

What was the last word on how many weeks Heath will likely be out of the regular season?

This doesn't make any sense to me. Players come in and run a little bit, tearing MCL's and ACL's and it's because of no contact? I wonder how many of these injuries around the league come from a surface other than grass.

Not a good sign but let's not jump to conclusions and write him off.

We have a game Sat. We still have Paulson and Jamie McCoy. Paulson will now play with the 1st and 2nd units and Jamie will work with the 2nd and 3rd units. We need another body to play a few downs with the 3rd and 4th units to close out the 4th QTR. Spaeth is out this week for sure. As long as he gets back by the 1st reg. season game we'll be okay. This also gives more 1str team reps to Paulson which can very well help his development.

The players negotiated these softer rules into the new CBA, it's there doing.

I know that but it still wasn't the "rule makers" doing as the OP said.
