Jack was solid before he came here. If anything he’s regressed a tad to previous standard. Spillane still sucks. Bush has been slightly better but is it coaching or playing for his career and contract next year?

So how else can we judge his impact? Whatever he’s brought it’s been very minimal. Definitely not worth sticking their neck out for somebody suing the league.

It was a Tomlin decision. Just like bringing in Vick. Nothing good has ever come from his great ideas.

Actually, Jack's play had been in decline while he was with Jacksonville. He has bounced back to being a solid player in Pittsburgh.

Spillane was a big part of the win in Tampa and he did it while playing a role he shouldn't be able to handle.

There are many potential factors in Bush going from horrid to merely average. Assuming the position coach has nothing to do with it is just you trying to sell the same stupid narrative that was shot down weeks ago.

How are they sticking their necks out? In what way is his lawsuit affecting the Steelers negatively?

The defense held Miami and New England under 20 points, but sure let's blame Flores for them losing both of those games , maybe they lost because of the crappy offense.

I’m sorry but this isn’t quite right. Flores is more than just a LB coach, he was hired and is the Senior Defensive Asst/ LB, we have an inside LB coach and a OLB coach.

I also don’t believe he is an upgrade over Butler, Butler was a Great LB coach and a good DC.

The hiring of Flores was at first “political” ( don’t you guys get your panties in a wad over that word ) because Tomlin didn’t want him being hung out to dry and his career down the toilet and it wasn’t like He & Tomlin were close long time friends either.

Flores was a supposed good defensive coach in the past so on the surface it looked like a good hire but Honestly the proof is in the pudding.

But honestly, our defensive woes are deeper than Flores incompetence ……

With Edmunds and Bush, I'm feeling confident enough in both to give Edmunds a 3-4 yr deal and Bush a 1-year deal. I need to see more from Bush, but he's at least progressing. Maybe my feelings change towards both down the stretch though. I definitely think we need OLB depth, but that's something we can find in the 3rd or 4th round, which really frees up the #1 pick towards OL/DL/CB.

I'm not sure how you watch this team and start talking about the incompetence of Flores, even if you do point out there are issues deeper than that. All three inside linebackers have been better. To be fair, Bush and Spillane still aren't particularly good, but look where they were last year. Jack also struggled in his final season in Jacksonville, but he has played well for the Steelers.

The defense was built around Watt. That injury has been devastating, and it hasn't been the only one. Even with all that, the defense has gotten better the last two weeks. They gave the team a chance to win in both games.

Butler's time as DC was a mirage. He himself, in an interview, said that he didn't call the defenses. He was considered a great LB Coach when he was under Lebeau. The impression that I got was that he spent his last few years here going through the motions. Nothing to back that up. Just my impression.

As for Flores, I think the Senior Assistant title was given to him out of respect for the fact that he was a former head coach. Flores took quite a step backwards when he became a position coach. The Senior Assistant tag is symbolic more than anything else.

We all have no idea how much input Flores has in terms of game planning. What we do know is that Flores is working directly with the linebackers. His players have raved about him. Miles Jack has said multiple times in interviews how he thinks Flores is a great coach.

I don't think the hire was political in the sense that you do. If Tomlin hadn't hired Flores, I think it is likely that Flores would not be coaching in the NFL right now. Tomlin did the guy a solid. Personally I don't agree with the lawsuit, but I do and did like the hire. You can call it political if you want but it was an upgrade. Flores' lawsuit hasn't been an issue and it is rarely brought up. So it's hard for me to find fault with Flores there.

The problems this team has, has a lot more to do with the offense than it does the defense. The defense has only given up more than 25 points twice this season. (Buffalo & Cleveland). They have held opponents to 20 points or under 4 separate times. The defense is far from perfect, but if you can't score more than 20 on offense, then you just are not going to win many games. This team has far bigger problems than Brian Flores.

We are all just guessing what impact Flores is having as we are not in the room when game plans or defensive schemes are talked about.
As bad as the start against the fish was there were adjustments that pretty well shut them down for 3 qtr's. Even just saying there were adjustments feels strange.
When we all remember games where TE's were killing us and in the second half Butler still had slow LB's in coverage.
At times the Steelers had three inside LB on the field against Miami that's a pretty radical adjustment.
Who came up with that no one here knows for sure.
I'll take giving up 16 or 17 points a game anytime.
Now if only someone on the offensive side had some ideas. I like Harris but I would split the carries between the two backs in the first half and whoever plays better gets the rock in the second half.
Pickens should see the ball 7 to 10 times also use the middle of the field more.
WR sweeps should be once or twice not 6 or 7 times. Stop throwing to anyone who is standing still at the LOS when its third and 8.
