Listening to some of the Senior Bowl talk has brought attention to TCU cornerback Kevin White. He's listed at 5'9" 180#.

Another small CB is Oregon's Ifo Olomu who's listed at 5'9" 195#. Olomu was considered a first rounder (similar in size to Jason Verrett TCU last year who went 1st rnd to Chargers) before the knee injury at the end of the season. If Olomu falls like Shawn Colvin did last year due to his injury, these guys could be some nice additions to the secondary in round 3.

What are your guys thoughts on the shorter CBs? They all seem to be very fluid and do not back down from contact. With the PI flags flying like crazy, would this be a better route to go for our slot/nickel corners as these guys don't seem to rely on contact with the receiver as much. They use their mobility to stick with the receiver.

Here's some tape of White vs Oklahoma. He has a nice open field tackle on TE Bell.

I actually like shorter CB'S inside . They can match up well on slot WR'S and RB'S . Similar to small RB'S they can get lost behind the pile and they usually have better burst than bigger CB'S.

With that said I want my outside CB'S to be bigger and stronger or the elite WR'S will just physically destroy them.

I generally agree with this. I think you ideally want a mix of smaller and larger corners so you can match quickness/shiftiness with quickness/shiftiness and size with size. The thing is, assuming we retain Blake and/or McCain, our decent corners (including Gay in the mix) are all small or mid sized corners. I would give a bit of an edge to the larger corners in my draft evaluation.

That said, if a guy like Olomu lands in your lap in the 4th round, I think you pull the trigger.

As long as a corner has good body awareness and can maintain position, that's fine with me. Ideally they're all 6' 200-lb and over, but good luck fielding a secondary full of those. I would not knock a corner down a notch because of his size.

    Safety is a different story.

We had enough of those midget CBs, let's get some bigger guys who can help in the run game and make tackles.

I generally prefer taller corner, 6'1+. However, if a shorter corner is a PLAYMAKER, I will take him. I really enjoyed watching Ekpre-Olomu. I thought he would have been a terrific 1st round option, however, with his knee injury, he will slip. As Elvis said, if he is there in the 4th, you take him.

The most important element these players need to have to play for the PGH Steelers is they have to want to hit. This is whats bothering me with Cortez, I saw several times when he played that
he wasn't up to hitting. The Steelers may give him another chance but his time is running out. I hope we draft/fa 2 cb's this year. these players must have good ball skills, physical, be able to make plays(interceptions).I don't care how tall you are if you can make plays.

If they play like Darrell Green then draft smaller CBs, if not draft the bigger players like the Seahawks do. There's a lot of big WRs in the NFL today you have to be able to matchup on defense.
