Should the Steelers try to re-sign Steven Nelson?

I never thought JH92 would be back after he went to the Bengals. But I think Nelson feels slighted for some reason and he'd be the one not willing to listen to offers if the Steelers reached out. Have no idea of course, JMO. Athletes always have the big egos, whereas the team takes a more business approach (for the most part).

I never said a bad word about Nelson.

I think he is a solid player.

All I said was on a one year deal... all things being equal.. Ill take 33 year old Sherman over 28 year old Nelson

And unlike most...I try to back up my opinion with facts and figures......vs the usual message board trope of

"Do you even watch football bro? Your dude Suuuuuuuuuuucks"

Which is the only rebuttal I have heard

Sherman brings leadership in spades compared to Nelson.

Pierre killing it in preseason would be the best. Then you have a little more confidence going into the season, plus he's way cheaper than Nelson or Sherman. But man, you're running on fumes for depth.

He’s unsigned so it’s not just about the Steelers, he’d have signed with some team by now if he wasn’t overvaluing himself. Obviously the offers aren’t to his liking.

You don’t wait till the last second to sign with a team so you have to take half the season to get up to speed just because you are hoping someone gives you the $ amount you think you are worth. That’s not a winning strategy.

The whole hostage thing was so he could get released and catch on with another team before the offers dried up.

Leadership doesn't help you in coverage, physical ability does.

Signing a 33 year old Sherman makes no sense, it's a moot point on both Nelson and Sherman because the Steelers are interested in seeing what Sutton can do at outside CB.

If your saying availability i agree. Healthy Sherman is a better choice for our defensive woes though.

I would take a young James Pierre over an old Sherman .

I would take a young Pierre beating out an old Sherman. Looks like he's winning.

Sherman’s legs look shot. I’d take Nelson all day every day.

Meh...Nelson can negotiate futures with some team willing to overpay him. Most free agents are overvalued.

Based on what? Certaintly not his on field stats. He was the #1 rated CB in 2019 and got injured like 5 games into 2020

I'm not even saying you are wrong...I'm just curious what you are basing this on?

2019 is a lifetime ago for a guy who is 33! You can tell he isn’t the same since leaving Seattle.

Again... what are you basing this on? Just your opinion? Which is fine if that's just your opinion.... but statistically he is still towards the top of the charts

I know you said 2019 is a lifetime ago... but for comparison...2019 was the best year ever for Nelson with an 80.5...which had him ranked 6th. Damn good if you ask me. Sherman was 1st.

So lets say Sherman lost a step... and drops to 15... even 32.... that's still ranks him in the top half of not top third of all corners in the league. I just don't see the problem

Then why aren't the 49ers bringing him back?

Yeah but I think Nelson will get signed before the season, Sherman not so much.

You have to give the edge to Nelson over Sherman, because the Steelers play more Man-Coverage. Would Nelson come back to be a backup?

And will Avery Williamson come back to compete for for depth at ILB? We did give up a 5th to get him last year.

Nelson would not be a backup if the Steelers got him back.
