    It’s bizarre behavior for sure.
But you try and answer the question. For me, I guess it would seem like Tomlin maybe requires more time to get his team prepared? I don’t know if I really know the answer.

I know I don't know the answer. That's why I asked, but it seems to me...JMO....that a team that really is relying on just talent, and not actual coaching.....would do better in less preparation time, and worse in more preparation time. Yet we do the opposite.

    SERIOUS ANSWER:

he is style over substance. He can focus and is bright in many ways - but he loses focus too often and FAST. He loves his press clippings. and does not handle success well (some have this in their psyche) and is terrible as a favorite (stats over time prove that out). I measure him MOST by playoffs. His teams have laid far too many eggs as HOME FAVS in the playoffs. for that matter, so did Cowher (for both of them, some of them were LARGE). I have said for years - he is good, he is just not great.

he was asked pre-game (did you see the interview?) why he has never won coach of the year. I would have loved to answer that. it is b/c he never deserved it. He never is Coach of the Year. He is just good, but not great.

At least You now attempted to answer. I appreciate that. I don't know the answer, nor do I pretend to, but I do know that some of what You say while true....doesn't actually ring true. At least not to my ears. It seems to me a person who loses focus would do better on less preparation weeks....instead of longer preparation weeks. Like I said....I don't know the answer, and I'm not trying to act like I do. Again I appreciate it.
Edit: Name Me one thing that the Coaches of the Year have done that He hasn't???
Also most Coaches of the Year that win....usually lose their jobs within a 5 years.

he has had a storied career - many things about Mike, I like - i say that time and time again. he seems to me like a great guy. Nice guy, players coach - many guys come here to play for him, etc. I am not sure I would say "most coaches of the year" lose their jobs w/i 5 years. Sure - some do - and yes, there is something to be said about stability. (see chart below....)

BUT - you have to WIN to keep you job. what kind of stability are we interested in - just being competitive? if you don't get to or win PLAYOFF GAMES, it it time to MOVE ON. That is how I feel.

He is just limited (IMO) in his X's and O's, in his hiring of Coach's, in his turning over the reigns to those coach's (does he feel threatened - I have NO idea). He has not brought in a big name OC (unless we call Haley and AS now, that - I think he is micromanaging AS). and he has not made an effort at a serious DC since LeBeau left. There were good ones out there at times but I new they were NEVER coming here.

So - I don't know either. it that Rooney or the GM or something else.

    I don't know

But I am tired of getting booted in Rd. 1 of the playoffs. and I am tired of grab ass first half football and have watched it for too many years now.

You have a good point about trends.

    When it comes to Tomlin........
There are the 'Fantasy Football' freaks that don't really know anything about the football and don't really care about the franchise, they just want points.
There are fans that just hate to lose.
There are the armchair GM's, Coaches and so on, you know, 'the smartest guy in the sports bar' types.
    There are the methodical types.
Some live vicariously through the team too.
Some people just want change, for no real reason.
Some love the sport and really know the game.
    It's a toxic mess.

I used to write articles about 'The Super Fan' for our magazine - Redskins Weekly.
I interviewed all types for 3 years....

    But regarding Tomlin.
It really kind of starts with the franchise. I could sit here and write for days about the Rooney's. My family knew them, I grew up around them, my Dad worshipped them and he might just as well been in heaven when he was with them.
Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin. That's old school football right there.
All 3 will tell you about the franchise and how much the Chief believed in them.
Players loved all 3 of them, sure you get your dissention it comes with the territory.

Mike Tomlin is a good coach. His players will you that, his opponents will tell you that, his peers will tell you that.
Tomlin doesn't lord over his OC and DC... that's speculative bs.
This staff, and I am not going to tout is as great, work together to put plans in place. Mike Tomlin is the Head Coach and he absolutely has oversight.
But his staff always stands by him.

To me, Mike Tomlin has been coaching a long time and sometimes, familiarity breeds contempt.
I don't want to see Tomlin go but sometimes you need to keep things fresh.
This organization is like going to grandma's where the house smells like mothballs. They stick with things, sometimes too long.
Not many coaches get to enjoy their position that long. Despite what some say, Tomlin is successful.
I would hope the next coach is as successful, nothing worse than getting stuck in that endless treadmill of mediocrity.
I'd like to see him get a Super Bowl before he calls it a career. So much is involved with that, you have to have the right owner, the right GM, the perfect balance of players, and a lot of luck. I don't think we have that.

it’s the exact opposite of what you are thinking :

    - when his talented players are well rested, they win
    - when his talented players are tired, the lose

Tomlin adds no value in either scenario.

Well I have to admit when I was calling for two QB’s I certainly didn’t invision what I saw last night. I don’t understand why they would put Fuekds in at the end if the game needing four yards in third down to essentially end the game and gave him throw the ball deep down the sideline.

I get it they brought him out last weeek at the end of the game and they were trying not to be predictable but why throw a low percentage pass in that weather with Fields off the bench? they should have thrown a quick out or a fun route to Pickens or Friermuth from Russ.

We had literally no blocking scheme for Garrett. With arguably having the best blocking TE in the league there is absolutely no excuse we don’t neutralize high pedigree edge players with either a double team or chip with Washington and the OT.

if they are going to manage the two QB’s like they did last night I’m with you stuck with Russ. That two QB game plan has to be a feel thing and you put him in at the appropriate times during the ebbs and flows of the game. It seemed to me they were determined to put Fields in there no matter what.

Russ wasn’t the issue it was everyone else. The puzzling thing is it’s all our high pedigree players that aren’t showing up or struggling like Seamalu, Minkah and Watt.

the oline and defensive line were tremendously disappointing last night.

Yes but you are asking a common sense question to a bunch of dipshits. They lost their third game by 1 score. We have been in every game and sometimes calls go the other way or guys just make mistakes. Teams that do not care are always the most dangerous. They have nothing to lose and nothing to really gain. Last night’s game was about the HBO Hard Knocks narrative. The rest of the season will be back and forth in the division with each episode being a cliffhanger. From the out of bounds late hit to the grounding to the missed hold on Herbig. There is a lot of money riding on the Hard Knocks in season series, enough to make them jam all of our division games into the last 8 games.

The thing You have to understand is nobody made Him throw that to Pickens. It was his 1st read, and that's what He took. He had other reads, and He could have tucked the ball, and ran, but He chose that route to throw. He doesn't make great decisions on the field right now. As we have seen a few times in the short amount they have started to use him again. That may come later, but using him a Gimmick Qb carousel package won't work long haul. Too many things factor in against the team. Waste of practice time with the starter, Waste of time coming up with a different scheme for him, different cadence for the OL, handling the snap differently , and many other things. It's a bad Idea. Look how out of sorts the team looks every time they use him. Pick a Qb....and work on the stuff we need to get better at, and....don't waste time that we should be using for the main Offense to get better.

I like a lot of what You said,,but You, I and everyone should refrain for calling people dip$hits. I get it . You get angry, and believe me I do also,,but I don't want to see anyone kicked off the board. We don't have to agree to get along.

was just reviewing last 15 yr, COTY - to give a visual.

point is: COTY or not, if you don't win playoff games soon, you get the boot.

    it is one perspective.

there is fine line between stability and making changes. Karl outlined some good thoughts, that last paragraph. Grandma's house - it's nice, warm, etc. but sometimes, change is necessary.

There really isn’t any other way to describe the comments some people make on here. Many of our fans don’t deserve the effort the team puts forth. It’s funny that the only footballs fans, x players and sport casters like Tomlin. The only people who hate him are the people who claim to support the team. Most of them promised to never watch the team again after the anthem situation in Chicago a few years back. I wish they would have kept their promise.

4 of those guys never had a winning season again....so had no chance at the playoffs. One of those guys as soon as he lost his Qb was fired 3 years later because he couldn't win anymore. Not sure I'd want to win the award. LoL

It’s clear they don’t know how to implement him effectively in that role. I am leaning more towards your thoughts now unless they prove me otherwise. They do have to figure out the short yardage offense and the red zone. It’s very clear are line isn’t capable of outmuscling people straight up when they know the fun is coming so we have to figure out how to be more innovative and creative.

Good HC who know how to scheme come into play every game.
Tomlin can’t scheme so he doesn’t come into play win or lose.
They just do the same **** and hope the talent wins.
