Rewatched some of the game against the Colts and really folks he doesn't look lost so I don't know what that statement is about. Maybe if the O Line could keep the pass rush away especially in the 2nd half? The kid has got game.

The line actually protected him well. He was moving in the pocket before the injury, but now the only thing he seems to do is back up. He was making progress before the concussion, but that seems to be lost since his return.

I honestly can’t think of a more ridiculous comparison between playing QB in HS and in the pros. If you’re missing wide open receivers in HS you probably should play a different position.

Rudolph has a lot more to process but it was clear he wasn’t going through his reads and turning to his checkdown right away. QBs miss open receivers all the time, think they don’t point that out in film? Or are the coaches like, oh wait, we can’t do that, that’s high schoolish :smiley1:

Well I can think of a whole lot more ridiculous things that that but oh well. I wasn't comparing the QB's in high school to the QB's in the pros, I was comparing high school parents to well I guess message board people. If you think playing QB is pretty easy then why is it so hard to find guys to play it? You pointed out that MR missed DJ 3 times well you think he did that on purpose, you think that MR don't want to throw to him?

    Your circular logic is exhausting.

Better not watch the video AQL posted in another thread, the guy breaking it down pointed out how DJ was open for a first on the 4th and 1 that failed.

Know why that failed?!?! Has nothing to do with Mason. Randy thought Indy's Defense would be fooled. Guess what happened?!?!

    Randy played himself!!!

I understand this is a double post, but I believe this is better served in this thread. Quite a bit to dissect here. Sit back, relax and enjoy! :herewego:

The best line is he hoped Anthony Constonzo wasn't hungry on Sunday because Bud Dupree ate his lunch and dinner.

I can’t absolve Rudolph there unless he is being given no leash at all. He’d have to be under instruction to ignore the open receiver and throw it to JuJu only.

I’m not defending Fichtner, Mr Wildcat himself but hard to miss DJ there.

He doesn't look scared. Not at all. He's tentative and focused, even with a disintegrating pocket. And you must not have watched enough rookie qb's since Marino played to say that he was the LAST to be poised.

You're all over the place with that. Don't even know how to respond.

I don't remember ANYONE saying, or even implying, that either backup should perform as if Ben was under center. And what signs do 99% of rookie qb's exhibit? You are trying to make the point that MR is performing as to be expected, and that's fine. But pulling 99% out of your ass doesn't make you sound credible or help your argument.

Totally different game then when Bradshaw played. Can't even start a comparison of quarterback play. MR is, however, doing a decent job managing the team. The problem is that he hasn't made the transition to playing on Sundays. He was a far more effective qb in college. He has the demeanor, skillset, and pedigree to be a solid qb in the nfl. He just hasn't shown it yet. Not expecting him to be Ben or to take this team deep into the playoffs (if even get them there). But it would be nice to see him perform up to his demonstrated abilities. He wasn't an inaccurate qb in college. Him being accurate in the pros isn't too much to expect.

Actually, the Pats have been successful without Brady, Gronk, and Edelman, just not all at the same time. Thing is, with the mad hatter patrolling the sidelines, I think their potential for success is still pretty good. Using the Pats as a point of comparison really isn't a good practice because they are not the standard. They are in a category by themselves.

It's not really about only having rookies to throw to. There's far too much more going on than WR experience. MR isn't the only cog in the machine. But MR has a wealth of experience with James Washington after 4 years in college together. And JW has followed MR in not transitioning well to life on Sundays after winning the Biletnikoff Award for the nation's best wide receiver in 2017. Guess who was throwing the ball to him when he won that award? Mason Rudolph. Think MR doesn't have the goods to perform at a high level? Think again.

Once again, NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE is expecting MR to win the SB this year. The thing that many of us are looking for is similarity. We're used to having a gunslinger. We kind of expect a gunslinger because that is what has worked for so long. We're not expecting hall of fame results, just hall of fame effort. Maybe too much to ask, but hey, it is what it is.

Wait, your very first sentence questioned, "Can anyone name me a rookie QB ever that did not look scared in the pocket or have happy feet?" So do you think he's scared or not? Do you even know? And after what he accomplished in college, you simply cannot give him a pass on being inaccurate or tentative. He needs to start trusting himself and the system and not worrying about making a mistake. No risk, no reward. And if the coaches were worth their salt, they would empower him to take chances within the bounds of situational football. There is a time to take chances and a time to be conservative. Good coaches know the difference and coach their team to know it as well.

You are right. I doubt the instruction would be to ignore DJ. That however is not my concern.

Why is it that Randy believes that trick plays are going to work against defenses that are technically sound like Indy's?! I just do not understand. Randy ran a similar play against Baltimore and it did not work.

Rudolph was also slow getting the ball to Smith-Schuster. It was a bad play call with even worse execution. Now maybe the ref toss an OPI flag if Rudolph does throw it to Johnson, but he was wide open thanks to a blatant pick by McDonald.
