That's because Ben succeeded no one. Before Ben you never knew what you'll get from a QB and for the most part it wasn't good. It was bad. That's why Ben looked pretty damn good.

I'm starting Rudolph this week on my 2 starting QB fantasy league. Wentz has a bye week, but I have Russell Wilson as the other starter... so it may work out for me. Just hope Finctner lets Rudolph air it out.

you want to let a 1st year starter, with less than a half dozen starts, call his own plays?

Here is the bottom line for me. It's simple logic that you can't judge the effectiveness of something that doesn't exist. We have yet to see MR perform in a game plan where he throws the ball downfield by design.

Put the game plan in with occasional deep passes and let's see what he does! If he screws the pooch, we weren't going anywhere anyway, and if he does above average it changes our entire offensive approach.

Common sense isn't all that common on the sidelines of a Steeler game!

I had re-read your last sentence to make sure I understood what you think is possible.

I wouldn't say "all" are wondering. I keep reminding myself that if Colts made that FG, I'll bet most all here would not even come close to thinking MR taking anything to the SB except a date. I really like this kid, win or lose, but I realize it will be a miracle to even get to 8-8.

It doesn't have to pretty you just have to win.

There's going to be a point where Mason is going to have to go win us a game, and it could be this week.

You won't go win a game on check downs. I want to see how he handles those situations. That is the difference between an average and good QB.

So, those plays where he badly overthrew the receiver, threw behind the receiver and underthrew the receiver weren't designed plays? They were Rudolph calling his own plays?

Who knows if they were designed plays, or an ad lib on MR's part, all we know for sure is that the sampling of his downfield throws is too small to render an opinion.

Apparently, you do. You claim that we haven't seen "Rudolph perform in a game plan where he throws the ball downfield by design" so, they must have been ad-libs.

Ok, thanks for that. Sorry as well. Just blindsided me when you compared me to a high school parent, I was like this guy :lolol:

Air yards is just a metric created by Next Gen Stats that shows how far the ball is being thrown downfield whether it's caught or not.

We both agree he wasn't throwing much down field against the Colts, just disagree on the why. I feel he was panicking and checking down too quickly.

The way to throw any QB off his game is with pressure but some handle it better than others, Rudolph doesn't handle it well at all and have my first real concerns about him succeeding because of it. He definitely needs to improve on that or he won't be our next long term QB.

That said, guy has played 5 games and has shown some good things and more importantly, winning games. We'll see where he is at the end of the season.

If you're going to quote me, do it right. I said we haven't seen a large enough sampling to render an opinion.

Jeeez, did the world run out of Midol in the last few days!:smiley1:

I quoted you almost word for word! It's only a couple of replies above this one. Read it for yourself.
The reason there's a shortage of Midol seems to be because you're hoarding it!

Men don't take Midol sweetheart. But you should! I'm pretty sure you don't know what MR is being instructed to do, and I'm pretty sure that we haven't seen enough of anything to form a final opinion on MR......especially not down field passing.

No, I don't know what he's being instructed to do. Neither do you. Granted, his final evaluation is weeks away but, you seem to think his horribly overthrown DOWNFIELD throws aren't designed plays. I think he doesn't have enough experience to get away with ad-libbing those plays.
I'm certainly not YOUR sweetheart, RealSteel.

I think that the Steelers would be doing better offensively if they put Duck in the game, but Mason has more potential to take over for Ben in the future.

I'm just going to post this clip here. This is Deshaun Watson breaking down the Panthers D for a member of the media who thinks he knows more than the coaches. Watson is a pretty good QB and if this is all the stuff going through his mind before the snap imagine a 2nd year player making his first real NFL starts.

I will post here because I think Aerosteel makes some of the best sense in this thread.

I like Mason. Remember, Ben had a great supporting cast, both "O" and "D" when he became the starter. The current roster vs. the one Ben started out with are not even close to comparable. That was a Super Bowl Caliber team that Ben had to work with. The current "O" is basically just starting their NFL careers stride for stride with Mason. Let us Name them: JuJu, Connor, Dionte, Washington and others.

Given that, I do like what I have seen from Mason up to this point. The young man has "Guts" as I stated in another post. He is building chemistry with this "O". It will take time. I am happy that as he is gelling with his teammates we are also winning games! Can't complain about that. We are currently "Significant" in the division and the conference. He does not seem to be getting rattled from my vantage point. It is actually more of his teammates blunders that are causing bad situations versus Mason's play. We can not speed up the hands of time to speed up his progression. He is doing just fine IMO. STEELWINDS

Well as a former high school parent(2 years removed) of 3 boys and another that pretty much lived with us. I had 3 QB's going through the system over the years and I always hated when a parent would pull the BS "my son was open" crap. It is easy to sit in the stands or watch the tv and complain when the QB misses an open guy. However when the QB is rolling right and he has a wide open guy to the left it is pretty hard to hit that. I wouldn't think any QB would want to miss a wide open receiver. Wasn't trying to disrespect you just felt a little high schoolish when you were pointing out DJ was wide open 3 times and MR missed him, it does happen sometimes. :smiley1:

Anyways I never heard of that stat and honestly I don't like it. There is a big difference between 450 "air yards" and 251 passing yards. Just one throw can make that stat look a whole lot different than it is, jmo. I agree MR has only had 5 starts and people want to give up on him but he has shown improvement. Is he Ben heck no but lets see how he keeps improving each week. I am very hopeful for him but the one thing I am worried about that I see each game so far is the pressure up the middle. MR for some reason is not rolling out from it to buy time(something Ben was great at) and he is not able to step into some of his throws. The was shown on his INT where Pouncey was pushed back and MR had to short arm it, this is the one thing if they fix will help that long ball. I am pretty sure with Juju, DJ and JW we have the guys that can get open deep. Like I said in the begining I loved the first play of the game with the quick 5yd slant. We need more of this to keep the pressure off MR, where is the bubble screen?. I know many here was against it cause we ran it so much but we went from to much to none. Man after seeing that block 2 games ago that JW did I wouldn't have a problem hitting Juju or DJ with one or two of them and seeing if JW could open up a lane. I think play calling has been pretty bad and I hope it gets better cause if it does I think we will see a vast improvement in MR as well.
