Im not up to date with the terminology of these rules but even if KP was outside the hashmarks...If that is the case then wow was this a major miss.

I remember I think it was Duante Culpepper or maybe Teddy Bridewater take a nasty shot to the leg but maybe back then he was declared a runner out of the pocket.

Again..Im lost on the interpretation and empahsis of these rules that are so poorly followed game to game...week to week...year to year with respect to consistency.

    I will bump this Myself.
This is why I question why any Qb would not 1st want to be His best inside the Pocket, and then worry about everything else after that.

The league really needs to go back over this rule, QB's signed on the dotted line also.
They should know the risk/ rewards of playing in the NFL just as every other position.

Couldn't agree more. I didn't see the Chiefs one but I saw the Brady one....absolute bull**** - as Kenny gets a no call on being clobbered while sliding.

The one against the Chiefs was actually a proper application of a bad rule. Jones really did land on Carr with all of his weight. The problem is there was no way for him to do otherwise. Also, Jones actually had the ball by the time they landed on the ground.

The one against the Falcons involving Brady was not a proper application of the rule, but it also illustrates the impossible task the league has given pass rushers. You can't hit the quarterback high. You can't hit him below the knees. You can't land on him. All that leaves is hitting him in the midsection and pulling him down, which is what was done to Brady. If they can't even do that, it's time to make it two-hand touch.

There were two hits on Pickett that should have drawn flags, but didn't. Most people are pointing to the hit when he was going into a slide. Even Pickett defended that one after the game. Maybe expects someone to bring up his fake slide in the ACC Championship game. That said, by the letter of the rule, it was illegal.

I'm sure someone defending the officials might claim that Lawson diving at Pickett's knee on his final pass attempt of the game was legal because he was outside the pocket, but man, that's a hell of a lot more dangerous than some of what is being called. Pickett is very lucky he didn't blow out his knee on that one.

This has been a problem the last 10 years and no doubt certain QBs have further rules than others.

I also hate the slight smack of a hand by hand and they call it a hit to the head on a QB

The roughing the passer calls need to be lightened up a bit and a majority of these calls happen on important 3rd downs where the D should get off the field but they don't.

Again.....name one that was called outside the pocket???
As I will say, and have said....if You want to put Your Qb at risk by current rules....keep running them, or rolling them out. All the rules are for a Qb in the pocket... not out of the pocket, but of course this doesn't fit in the .....We need an athletic Qb narrative....so people act like this is not true.
Example: We have only been flagged for Hitting Lamar Jackson (out of all the times We've hit Him)....twice.....once in the pocket, and once as He stepped out of bounds.

You can do more if he is outside the pocket, but diving at the guy's knee as he throws the ball is still a penalty. So is hitting the guy as he slides.

Couldn't agree more, but I see very little chance of this happening ,which is a shame. All real fans hate the rules, but it doesn't affect their bottom line so they could care less what we think.

There's just no common sense to some of the rules. How are you supposed to tackle qb without sometimes landing on top of him? In the KC game he even tried to lessen it with his arm and still got called. It just ruins the game.

As others have said, I think refs are told to err on side of over-calling it, so some do.

Can we go back to football, let the defense tackle while the offense tries to score... These fuzzy gray rules that leave to much interpretation to the ref need to be put out of the game. The make a call and let the replay fix it needs to be removed from the game.

Is it bad that I want to see the Steelers plant Brady in the turf a few times Sunday, flags be damned?

That call on Brady was a total joke. It ranks up there with the tuck rule, and the call against the Rams in the Super Bowl when they played the Patriots. Brady completed a pass and the receiver was hit as soon as he got his hands on the ball and the pass was broken up. The bogus call that game was the receiver was not given the opportunity to establish himself as a runner before being hit. I still think that call was payback for the blown pass interference against the Saints which lead to the Rams going to the Super Bowl. The Patriots/Rams that year was the most boring Super Bowl game of all time. I think if the Saints made it in, they would have beaten the Patriots that year. Then the Steelers would have still been the only team with 6 rings.

Activate Mark Robinson and tell him to drill Brady as hard as he can on the games first play, even if he hands the ball off. Of course it won't happen, he would be facing a ridiculous fine and suspension but it is fun to dream about.
