The Ravens just agreed to re-sign Smith for 100 million over 5 years. 45 million guaranteed. Too much? Or good deal for Ravens?

Hmmm...I think We may have just seen the last of Lamar Jackson then....which makes Me sad. I really liked Him being their Qb. Hard to fear a Qb that has only played You 3 times in 5 years, and has lost 2 of them. LoL.
As to Smith....I think He's really good, but I don't know about that much money

Lamar should have taken the Ravens offer.

I never realized that about Lamar. You said 5 years so that is 10 games and the guy missed 7 of them. Interesting indeed. I am not a fan of running QB's. I know the need for a mobile QB after watching Ben's last season and Kenny's first. I've always believed in the Playoffs the better D's stop that crap and your left with a QB whose used to using his legs not his arm for key moments.

I have friends who get so PO'd when a running QB doesn't win the SB. They were sure Lamar would do it and so did I. Running QB's open themselves up to injuries.

The thing about this signing also is that he signed the deal without an agent so he gets to keep all of his money. Smart move. Can't believe other players don't take that avenue.

NFL rules prohibit agents from getting more than 3%. That really is small amount when you consider the complexities involved.

This would actually be his first tag, but yea the non-exclusive is over 45 million and once signed guaranteed, non exclusive is around 30 million and is thy way to go if they want to at least try and keep him. If they do this he can try and strike a deal with another team, the Ravens have 5 days to match or get 2 first rounders.

I’m still hoping the Rats step up for Lamar. Come on Ratbirds, pay him his $275 million guaranteed…he deserves it. Pay no attention to those nagging little ankle and knee injuries he’s had the last couple of seasons causing him to miss significant time. He’ll bounce back, you can count on it. Pay the man!

I got it off a site that gave agent rules lol. It looked official, but like anything else on the net it could be crap. it did say that agents sometimes get 10-20 per cent on other income..like endorsements or advertising, so yes there is money to be made.

    Hell...

Remind you that Le'Veon Bell sat out the entire 2018 Season over not getting his money?! Who is to say Lamar cannot do the same?! For that matter, if I am Lamar Jackson, I would not think twice.

    Regarding RoQuan Smith's New Deal?

1.) Well earned on him. Like Minkah, RoQuan changed that Ravens Defense from one of the worst to one of the best; stats back that up too. Not his fault entirely that Huntley cost them a critical game against the Steelers.

2.) I was still holding out hope for Tremaine Edmunds.. but smart play by Baltimore on the preemptive strike here. The Ravens clearly see the Steelers have no ILB and want to price us out of acquiring one. Hopefully the new regime can work with someone of Tremaine's skillset but I would look for Tremaine to go to the likes of Chicago, Seattle and the New York Giants.

The contracts are so full of stuff, the agent is supposed to weed that out for you and play hardball so you can concentrate on playing. If you have the background and are savvy enough then sure, if not better have a reliable agent working it out for you.

I can't remember the player or even the sport. I think it may have been the NHL. Anyway, a player represented himself when trying to negotiate a new contract. He publicly reported the details of the whole thing. His take away was he would never do it again. If I remember right, he got his month that he wanted but he said the negotiations felt very personal to him and he was left feeling very hurt and unappreciated. He said conversations normally had by his agent were very hard for him to hear. An agent doesn't take it personally, and an agent shields the player from that stuff. When you represent yourself, there's no protection. It was an interesting story if nothing else.

I don't think the average player is capable of representing themselves. Most are better off paying an agent, but for those that can do it, 3% of $100 million is a lot of money.

He should think twice. It didn't work out for Bell. He lost tens of millions. Jackson will too if he's dumb enough to sit out.
The NFL will move on from jackson very quickly. Every game he misses, GM's forget about him a little bit more, until he's no longer worth half of what he is today.

    Blame Baltimore for that.

Lamar should have been paid already. For that matter, Baltimore is about to get a whippin!!

Interesting timing right before the playoffs. But it averages $15m for first 3 years with an out after that, so I say good deal for Ravens.

All that got him was losing 14 million
and a quicker exit out of the NFL. What a shame, what a mistake he made.
