Starks was underrated, so doing more poorly than he did isn't necessarily and indictment. Beachum is far from a top LT, but he was sure better than the other options. At least he has a fire in the belly - not like either of those high 2nd round picks who play lethargic for the most part (Gilbert and Adams).

starks gave up 14 sacks his last two years and beachum gave up the same number in his last two years. contracts numbers are wrong. I guarantee starks gave up more qb pressures in that time. we are talking about a 3rd year player and a 10 year vet also. beachum is also so much more mobile in the run and screen game than max would, will or ever has been. max failed to even become a backup when he left here finally. no he wasn't that good as a LT. beachum is improving. nobody is putting beachum as a top tier LT in the league, but he was better than any other we had at that spot. he's one heck of a lot cheaper per sack given up too, than max will ever be.

We won two rings with Max at LT. No, that doesn't mean he is the reason why, but I am just saying he was good enough for us to win two titles with him as LT. At least he wasn't completely soft and worthless like Adams and Gilbert. Those guys look like they aren't even really trying. Max was kind of a gentle giant and he had really bad feet, like he was wearing cinder block shoes. Just slow. At least with Beachum we are not in a panic to pick up a LT - it would be nice to develop someone who would be better than Beachum - but it's not an emergency situation, like our CB, OLB and S seem to be.

we won two rings with a lot of guys that were not that great on those teams. it doesn't make them top players or we would have kept them. beachum was and is a very valuable find for us as a guy that was nearly mr. irrelevant. that makes him that much more of a hit than 2nd, 3rd and 2nd round draft picks that struggled and are being kept because of draft status and no other plan in place. the investments alone in them are suspect. no plan to upgrade the spots really makes them head scratchers. do you think max would have been kept if we had a beachum at the time? we can do better is my point. ben's contract and health alone should be worth that.

I disagree, I hope Allen responds to the criticism and comes back stronger. The Citadel is probably not an easy place to get into or remain and I would think he has the backbone in place to succeed. He was good at turnovers and we could use his playmaking ability in the secondary. Funny how I almost forgot about him after speculating on the offseason transactions of McCain and Taylor. I think he comes back and rebounds nicely.

Plus didn't we sign B.W. Webb? I kinda liked him coming out in the draft, the CB position may have some light at the end of the tunnel. No world beaters, but a good mix for sure.

When was the last time we have seen a guy get a nice contract to be the guy, go out and look like a high schooler, get benched and then gets hidden on injured reserve? And for this garbage he will get a 3 mill bonus! Attitude was brought by two cast offs in McCain and Blake. Attitude is what this Defense needs not a whimp between the ears. Guess we will see but I have no great expectation for Allen. He was signed for desparation.

That's a bit unfair. I think it you asked most people before the start of the season if Cortez was going to make an impact, they would have said yes.

Ok, the contract was perhaps more of a gamble than it needed to be, but most people had high hopes for him, based on his previous performances. Nobody could have predicted the kind of collapse his play suffered this season.

I predicted he was not a #1 CB and would get exposed if asked to be 1. I still predict we have no #1 or even #2 CB on this Team. We have a bunch of #3's being asked to do more than what they are capable of.

Yep. Allen wasn't yet at no. 1 ability, but the signs were pointing in that direction. At the least, he was someone worth holding on to.

Agreed. I liked the signing because he had shown playmaking ability and thought he'd only get better. I think its a bit premature to write him off, I look for him to bounce back.
