You can say that the OL doesn't matter, but if we are blocking 1.6 yards per carry less than the year before it matters. 1.6 ypc turns a bad YPC into a really good one. It's not just a little bit worse. Our OL has been a lot worse at blocking. Its weird because we got a lot better as the season went on last year, and it seems to have significantly regressed.

Najee didn't have poor vision and burst because he couldn't turn 1 yard blocked into a 3 yard gain. It was because if we had a big play blocked, he didn't do much with it. Sometimes he'd miss the big play because he was too slow to bust it (the hole didn't last long enough for him to break it) or sometimes he'd just miss good sized creases and hesitate. Warren isn't having that issue. His problem is that he's going to turn that 2 yards blocked into 3.2 yards and Najee would turn it into 3.9 yards. We went with Jaylen because he'd turn the 7 yards blocked into 15-20. Or he'd turn 10+ yards blocked into a 74 yard TD. We just have to find a way to block him a chance. Its a long season and its only been 3 weeks... there's still time for the OL to improve.

It doesn't matter if we had Saquon back there right now, we'd struggle to run it either way. The entire offense has really struggled. We better show up ready to go in Ireland!

 

It's pretty bad that Gainwell's 3.4 yards a carry is the best on the team.

 

Whatever. I was told Jones was a better LT than Moore, and that if Najee wasn't the running back, the running game would be better, and yet it's worse. That's all I can say, the rest is speculation

 

Yeah, its kinda a crazy stat. Warren has 114 total yards after contact this season in all his touches. Only Johnathan Taylor, Travis Etienne, and James Cook have more (though Henry will pass him tonight only needing like 23 yards after contact to pass him). Only 4 backs in the league with more than 15 carries have less yardage before contact per attempt less than Jaylen (Dylan Sampson, James Conner, Zach Charbonnet, and Chase Brown).

He's gotten a raw end of the deal when it comes to our blocking. Hopefully we can get this fixed and fix it quick. We're going to have to gain a lot more yards than we have in order to keep winning (or to even compete with the best teams in the league).

 

Those should be single game stats for a good game. Not the cumulative totals for 3 games......ugggg

 

I think that Najee's speed was a big factor too. They kept trying to use him in a run to the outside, but he was always met there by 3 defenders because other than the front 4, he was probably slower than everyone else on the defense. The smart play would have been to stop trying to run him to the outside, but all season long for 4 seasons we kept running him to the outside.

 

Yeah, we certainly ran him outside far more than I would have preferred. We also tried getting him the ball in space too much. Just not his game. Misuse definitely didn't help.

 

Who said that? I never thought of (nor recall anyone rational suggesting) that he was THE problem.

Where are you getting that stat? I'm pretty familiar with most, but that isn't one I've come across often.

I don't think it helped that with the emergence of Warren as a third-down back they took receiving plays mostly out of the equation for Najee. It made it more predictable for the defense to expect the outcomes to expect if he was in the backfield. STD is a little bigger on this than I am, in terms of a Warren vs. Harris YPC debate, but I do think it affected Harris' effectiveness by removing a potential outcome for the defense to have to be prepared for.

In the end though, I think Harris lacked the burst and vision to be an ideal RB1. But until the line can consistently open some lanes it's not going to be substantially improved by a group of Warren/Gainwell/Johnson.

 

I mean fans constantly bashed him acting like he was the real problem with the running game, now that he's gone fans want to blame the OL when in fact the OL hasn't blocked good enough for any of the RBs.

 

I got the yards after contact stat by essentially Googling it, and then clicking on some of the websites to see which layout I like. The website I looked at that had all the stats lined up for the league is FantasyPros. It was for all touches (so receptions and rushes) that Warren is basically high end YAC.
