Ass-hat ducked and dived the question on J Harrison and then dipped off the press conference.

Pete's corpse would do a better job than Goodell.

What's the deal with being the commissioner, then? Is it a fixed term post, or does he just have it until he decides to retire? Can he be forced out?

I know it's unlikely, I was just wondering...

As I understand it he's selected by the owners and probably under contract with the NFL who is basically the owners. I'm sure if the owners put him in the job they can take him out as well. Here's the thing though. The owners primary objective is to make money. All of this other stuff like the player fines, suspensions, safety, etc. is secondary to them so if Goodell's delivering on his job in the revenue department the owners won't lift a finger to toss him out. While many of us contend Goodell's ruining the game, until that's reflected in the owners profits he'll probably be in the job for as long as he wants.

Maybe its time we make a stand on this issue. I am sure that most of the Steeler Nation feels the way that we do on this board...that is probably a given. However, I would have to think there are fans out there from other teams that are just as sick of the direction that the NFL is going as we are. Look at some of the other "blue-collar" teams out there. People pay money to watch their hero take someone's head off. It wont be long and a "high-five" will be fined and suspended. A slap on the a** will get you thrown out of the league.

This is why I stated in another thread that if we, as NFL fans, not just Steelers fans, are truly sick of Goodell, then we have to boycott the sport, and send a clear message that we want Goodell gone, and his decisions repealed.

But how many people are really ready to make a sacrifice to get what they want?

As long as we continue to support the NFL, then the message we send is that we are ok with what Goodell is doing. Period.

I believe that the NFL will ride out the transition. People love football, fantasy football is getting more and more people into it. The new fans do not need to see the concussions, for every Steeler fan that is outraged by the suspension of Harrison there are 31 other fans that are happy about it. Stop watching the Steelers and buying their junk will have little effect on Goodell and the owners. They will put up with it knowing that the future needs to be football without helmet to helmet, steroid monsters, and brutalizing hits. The game will go back to skill players who know how to tackle rather than just knock the shirt out of someone.

There would have to be a clear indication that
    a) viewers/customers were falling in significant numbers
    b) this was directly due to Goodell's policies

I would say that there is are certain signs already - the general disinterest in the pro bowl, for example, which is basically a game with no tackling. But if the purists boycott, and they're replaced with people who like the 80 point shoot-outs... then no one's budging Rog.

Fantasy football is part of the problem. The other part of the problem is the inconsistency from the front office. I do think Harrison deserved a fine for this hit but not a suspenion because McCoy was going to run and at the last second threw the ball. But tell me how does Seymore not get suspended for throwing punches after the whistle in back to back years? Sure he got tossed in the game but that was all. My issue is there is no consistency to anything dealing with the commish office.

It starts with his ability to be judge, jury and executioner on the fines and suspensions and ends with the terribly inconsistent officiating. IF he were to clean those items up I can live with where the league is going in terms of type of play.

But I will never be a Goodell fan...
