Rod Woodson is at mini-camp this week to help assist in coaching duties. He'll also be interning throughout training camp this summer to add some experience to his coaching resume. Mike Tomczak, Jason Gildon, and Rod Rutherford were also present at mini-camp today.

This is great, now if these guys will listen to him. Lake and Woodson surely
they can teach theses guys something. HOF Rod Woodson coaching you, as an
old db in my long ago playing days it don't get much better than that.

Is he no longer with the Raiders? If not let's find something for him to do!

He's not. They let him go after last season.

Hmmm... Any chance he winds up here in some sorta role? I also really like him as an analyst on NFL Network though. He's WAY too good for the Raiders anyway.

Loved him as a player, didn't care for him as an analyst. Is there a assistant DB coach role? If not make one up, would be great to have both these minds teaching our guys. Even if Woodson can't coach, Lake sure can, Woodson could just point things out to Lake, pass along ideas and let Lake figure out how to apply it.

Is this the same Woodson who rips Pittsburgh at every chance he gets, now that he wants something from them, Pittsburgh is great again. Hit the road I don't want him here.

When did he rip us? Just out of curiosity. A few years ago I actually saw him say that if he could wear another uniform again that he would love to wear the black and gold again. Did he start ripping us after he went to Oakland?

He went in to the Hall of Fame as a Steeler so I dont know why he would rip the Steelers. If anything, I think as an analyst, he was just trying not to be to pro Steelers and may have gone the other way too much. At any rate, Rod is my all time favorite Steeler so he can do no wrong in my mind :smiley1:

As somebody said, Woodson does lean to far the other way when Pitts is playing somebody. Cowher stays on our side.

If I remember correctly a player doesn't enter the HOF as a member of a certain team. He, the player, has to retire from playing before entering the HOF and he has to retire from the last team that signed him and that's why players sign 1 day contracts to retire from a certain team.

My thoughts exactly as a player and analyst. Not so sure he and Lake can work well together. He was All-Pro, Named as a top 75 all-time player and is a 1st ballot HOFer. Now as a coach he must work under a Player he was superior to. These guys have big egos. Will Lake feel threatened? Can Woodson be sub-ordinate to Lake?

I see the potential, good and bad, and only pray we reap the rewards and not regret the internship.

Let's bring Woodson in as our next DB coach when Lake succeeds LeBeau as DC. :hmmm:

I know that Butler is the odds on favorite, but Lake is my dark horse.

Woodson can be a subordinate to Lake, or he can get the hell out.

Anyway, Rod's a smart enough guy to realize that Lake, although not quite as successful as the impossibly successful Rod Woodson in his NFL career, was still an incredible player in his own right with a fantastic mind for the game, and has been masterful in his career so far as a coach. Whereas Rod himself got fired after a year. By the Raiders. If anything, I bet Rod is coming here to learn a thing or two from Carnell. I don't know him so I could be wrong, but if he thinks he's going to have any kind of authority that Carnell has, he's wrong so he better get used to that.

On that logic, the only Head Coaches in the league would be HOF players... I imagine that these guys have the professionalism to understand the difference between playing and coaching.

i'm not sure he was superior to lake ever. lake was one heck of a player in his own right. carnell is smarter i can tell you that. he's also one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.

What made Lake so good was his smarts but I'd say Woodson was the superior athlete. Loved having both of them back there.

Have you ever met Woodson? I was just curious with the way you said that if you were doing it as a comparison. I personally imagine that Rod Woodson would be kind of a quiet guy.

I doubt that Keith Butler stuck around and the Steelers probably promised he would succeed LeBeau.

Have to wonder how much longer he'll wait though, doesn't sound like DL is ready to go anytime soon.

Jack, I agree, would love to have Lake but I'm also interested in what Butler can do, he's been studying under a legend for years.
