Exactly. Will the NFL allow slain police officers names on helmets as well or will that be too controversial?

Sports of all sorts are playing a dangerous game when they take actions that irritate a significant portion of their paying customers. Especially during an economic downturn where advertisers are going to be watching their spends.

Maybe people will watch anyway. Maybe people will tune out the 'woke' messages and just follow the game. Most people don't turn on sports to get a 'social justice' lesson, regardless of whether they think the cause is just or not. I don't know how many viewers they'll lose, but even if it's 5-10%, that will hurt revenue, cap space and player salaries eventually.

Call me cynical, but I suspect damn few players are so dedicated to 'the cause' that they'd sacrifice even 2% of the income to support it.

I'm not sure why it would be. Just an open discussion on the hypocrisy of Roger Gooddells decisive nature. We've had this discussion before without threads being locked. Now, if it should become ugly political banter without merit than by all means it should be closed but for now lets have this discussion of why certain things are allowed while others are not. It's very deserving open dialog so far.

Well none of these players are in football shape, so in game 1 they will have a lot of injuries and will be out of gas in the second half, so Goodell might as well turn them into bill boards............

A thought, not necessarily a good one, but maybe by standardizing what is done it becomes a league response and most will be happy. Life goes on. Rather than a bunch of single look at me protests like Kapernuts which created no good.

That was what, 16 years ago?

So the league changed its stance. Rule changes happen all the time. The real question is could he do it NOW? If not, then you have a point. If he can, there's nothing out of sorts.

    Good question.

Will someone be in charge of approving the names? Will they be able to change the names weekly?

Could I pay a player to wear my grand father's name who died in WW2 for a game? And, then maybe next week I could pay another player to wear my grand mother's name who died of cancer?

Let's remember that this awakening league wide is only a few years old and was driven not by the stirrings of equality but because numbers were trending down and the moniker of No Fun League was more and more evident. The league was very strict with its policies and standards under the shield. Remember when DWill was fined for wanting to wear pink the entire season for breast cancer awareness? It was a cause that was deeply personal for him and he was doing all he could to support the charity. League still said no, we have a week for that, its enough. It makes me wonder how it would play out now? My cause my cleats is huge now, ten years ago you could be fined for not pulling your socks up.

To the original point I think in this day and time he isnt told to remove it.

I would like to protest weak leadership.

It's okay for ownership/management to say "No were not doing that." every now and again. It's a free for all these days.

Some players should have Cannon Hinnant on their helmets whether it's approved or not. People need to quit driving such a wedge between society with their hypocrisy.

Just ignore it if you don't like it. If you can ignore that the NFL lied about the dangers of playing for years you should be used to swallowing your moral outrage.

No, the real question is could he have done it before NOW? If not, why. If he can NOW, then why. Why did the rule change now and not before? Then you get what I think the real question is but maybe not an answer that will be satisfactory to most people.

You shouldn’t let politics get in the way of things you enjoy and also shouldn’t let anyone’s opinion make you angry...

you shouldn’t let some random online stranger give you advice either lol
