I see/read a little bit of panic about where we are right now. I think everyone needs to calm down just a little and relax. This team had a BUNCH of guys who didn't play for one reason or another. Some starters, others guys who are going to contribute on a regular basis. So much is being made of the CB position and Gay's "mistake" but despite the result, his coverage was actually correct, he didn't get the help he was supposed to get on the back end. Allen and Ike would have been beaten the same way. Our Veteran safeties are the ones who messed up.

I am still mostly concerned about depth than anything else. Our starters will be fine, but we will need some help from the others.

The only item I am concerned with right now is the special teams being not special... Otherwise my issues were dealing mostly with players trying to do too much to make a roster spot or just not playing as a unit...

As long as the main 22 stay healthy this pre-season, and hopefully all season, I think we will win the North this year.

Great response! How about just being steady... Is that too much to ask?

You're right, of course, and I'm usually of the same opinion about kneejerk reactions to games and unfair singling out of individuals.

I think for me there's some frustration, though. I just wanted to see a little more fire out there; I know (I know I know) that it's preseason, but given how lacklustre we played last year, I want some reassurance that the team is chomping at the bit to get out on the field and stomp on the opposition. Maybe I'm not going to see that, because the vets are playing cannily and the rookies are coming in too late in the game for it to be meaningful. I suppose if we had made th eplay-offs last year I would perhaps be calmer...

Without prep for the opponent, it is hard to know what really would happen if the teams play each other. You want to see the players do "the right thing" based on what the play was more than anything else.

Agreed. Its the 1st pre-season game and its good to see what needs to be addressed.

William Gay is this boards whipping boy. He isn't a pro-bowl CB, never will be but he is a good player in that he knows his role and responsibilities and does them consistency. As mentioned both Clark & Troy have come out saying they goofed, it is Highly unusual and I seriously doubt it'll happen again.

ST play, we had a block punt so all is lost........ Not quite. The "two" missed assignments caused that. Cromartie-Smith whiffed on the initial block and I think Golden was back deep and he released too early. Unusual for both to have happened and easily fixed. Gilreath is probably gone as he muffed a punt AND caught another on inside the 5. All of these issues is due to players trying TOO hard to impress the coaches but ultimately it cost. Again all this is correctable. Dunn had a nice 19 yd PR and the blockers was ok.

There is a concern moving forward that needs mentioning, it Back-up OL. Landry & JPW were mugged by the 4th string NYG DL and we were still playing Beachum and Malecki. I'm not blaming them because the ones around them,- Batistam wymper, chealde, Hubbard are just bad. Golic Jr and Madsen had 3 snaps and Long/ Farrell didn't play. what does that say. Look for them to get more snaps mon night in the 2nd half.

On the OL SOMEBODY better step up, the roster spot is there for the taking and the waiver wire is being monitored.

Great post Cajun. I look forward to seeing Hawthorne in action and hearing about him in camp.

I worry mostly about depth overall, but the OLine Depth is atrocious. At the moment I could see us keeping only 7 guys until we can find someone we actually trust. All the other guys were HORRIBLE!

I sure hope that this and future weeks, the ST is practicing something other than seeing how many balls they can hold/catch at one time. :kapow:

Yep, It'll be nice if they have another backs-on-backers drill but replace RB with DB.

I hope we don't see much of Hawthorne in pre-season games. It'll be easier to sign him to the PS. With the Young Wr doing so well as is our LB corp we're most likely gonna need the extra roster spot.

Our defensive Backfield is set for the most part. There's a lot of LBer showing up well so cuts here are gonna be hard. This will probably be Foote's last year. Without Spence in the equation Both McFadden and Rolle played extremely well. Robinson and Baxter are really displaying themselves well. Then we have our Drafted Vince Williams who's also doing a nice job.

I'm gonna do a mid-preseason mock 53-man roster- mostlikely I'll have 8 OL but I'm thinking right now of leaving the 8th spot open for some-one off the waiver wire, a late season signing. Someone like Winston Justice is still available and may be in camp for a tryout next week if Long, Golic Jr, Farrell or Madsen don't serilously step up. There's also Jamaal brown, Frank Omiyale and Jared Gaither available.
