Good. I'm just glad Sanders is ok, he has enough trouble staying healthy without taking shots like that.

I remember a lot of people were touting Moore as a pick for us a few years back. Is this a first offense, or is he a regularly doing hits like this? Purely out of interest.

I looked it up, and he was fined before for a somewhat similar hit against a Buffalo receiver during preseason last year.

Here's a replay of Sunday night's hit for anyone interested in seeing it again.

That's the problem with these new rules, intent is never, ever taken into account. Even if it's clear as day that the defender lowered his target point and was intending to go for the body but the receiver lowered his head at the last moment, it's still a penalty. I don't agree with that. I think that was a good football play, but Sanders happened to lower his head at the last second. When you're flying towards someone at 15 km/hr, there's not a lot of time to change your target point.

But, if they're going to call it on us, then I'm glad they're calling it on other players too.

Add me to the group that thinks this hit should NOT have been fined.

I agree, there was no intent there. Sanders was falling low and his head came way down -- the target area got real small real fast and was basically his head. I think they need to take apparent intent into the call (i.e. the hit on Lefty in preseason). This was a bang-bang play.

When there was a rash of initial penalties for this (was it last year, or 2 ago) the only really bad one was the guy who his the TE of the Ravens I think it was (either a Falcon or Patriot guy as I recall) -- he jumped up and head butted.

And if they are going to call this type on the defense, they should cal MJD for it when he runs - he always actually delivers a blow to the defender with his helmet.

I remember touting him during the draft when we took Heyward..
Funny thing is, his issue was being physical in some peoples eyes.
However, he was coached by Lake and had quite a few int's..
The next year his role changed somewhat and he led the defensive backfield in tackles..
He's a good player and that was a good hit.

I thought the latter hit to AB was worthy of a fine this one looked to much like incidental contact made while trying to make a tackle.

For those clamoring that it wasn't a fine, do you want us to be the only ones who get fined for that? Keep the playing field even, I'm happy it was fined. New rules suck but keep it fair.

No. What we want is no fines at all unless it was clearly intentional. We'd be hypocrites to advocate another team getting fined while we disagreed with our own getting fined, no? :)

Make intent part of it and stop going overboard on unavoidable (or near enough) accidents.

    1. Whatever the rules, they should be even among all teams.

    2. Intent should be a major factor. It should be by far the biggest factor. Result of the play/injury should not factor in at all. Harrison has been fined almost 200 grand and suspended a game for a series of good, clean hits. Cromartie of the Eagles got $24K for doing something worse than everything Harrison has done in his entire career put together. It should be about what you tried to do, not what happened while playing football.

    3. I don't understand those excusing Rahim Moore's hit. Look at the timing. Sanders dropped the ball, it hit the ground, and Moore had plenty of time to let up. He chose not to and delivered a blow anyway. Don't give me that "it happened too fast" thing, because these guys can think so fast it's like a normal person watching it in slow motion. In football speed, that was an eternity. He made the decision to deliver the blow. He also changed directions, which you can see from the original angle. He went after him, after the ball was out of the picture. And he did see the ball come and go. This is enough to determine intent. I'm all for letting fines slide when it was a good clean play that happened to result in a helmet to helmet hit, but that's not what this was.

Im in the shouldn't have been a fine camp too.

Watch the video at :44 and he clearly lets up and turns his head to the right trying to avoid impact just before the actual impact.

That being said, it does show that the Steelers aren't being targeted as much as everyone likes to think. It sucks that he was fined, but at least the league is consistent with its sucky decisions.

I don't want fines either but that's not reality is it. Old NFL is gone and this is what we have now, so in the interest of level playing field, if its called on us, better damn well call it on the other teams doing it. Not to mention that I think this hit could have totally been avoided, he didn't even have the ball.

This was the perfect definition of hitting a defenseless player, Sanders took about 3 steps without catching the ball and Moore hit him helmet to helmet anyway, when Harrison got fined for hitting a defensless receiver in the brown game last year, that receiver had the ball and was engaged in advancing the ball making him fair game: In my opinion Harrisons hit, though it was helmet to helmet was at least against a player in possession of the ball, Sanders didnt make a catch and Moore had time to pull up but didnt, Moore desrved what he got and if Harrison had made that hit his fine would have been 50K....

When I first saw it I thought it was a good call not for helmet to helmet but for hitting a defenseless WR..... after watching the above clip.... 40 sec to 35 sec in slow mo I agree they should hace thrown the flag, refs need to aire on the side of caution and they are in real time, but upon further review NO-WAY should that be fined.
