Well.. since Roethlisberger has been on the team, Mason Rudolph has shown more promise than any other Steelers backup QB not named Batch or Leftwich.

Rudolph is already better than Landry Jones, Dennis Dixon and late career Michael Vick... all of which started games when Ben was out.

I hope so but I really have no faith in this coaching staffs ability to gameplan until proven otherwise.

hey man I am team Rudolph but I am just calling how i see it. When the going gets tough rudolph checks down a ton and stalls on drives. Ben/Dobbs take risks the difference is Ben can light you up and Dobbs can throw balls at your feet lol.

Do you honestly think they don’t game plan?

Early in the year, sure. But late in the year it's honestly hard to tell. I don't see any game plan or strategies to attack different teams. It's usually the same **** over and over.

Well they sure game planned late last season when they beat the Patriots, they had a rookie RB run for over 100 yards vs the Patriots. They also held the Patriots to 10 points.

Oh the game where they had to bring some outside guy to show them how to stop Gronk? Yeah, I remember that.

My initial thought is why is Bud Dupree finally looking like a first round talent? I know it's a contract year for him but now all of a sudden he can pass rush to the QB? Where in the world has that been?

They definitely game plan. We might not like the game plan sometimes, but they game plan.

Every team is going all out with speed and smaller faster LB's and NE is going to go with three TE's and pound the ball for 3 yds and a cloud of dust then a quick slant or crossing route to some shifty little white guy that played lacrosse or volleyball.
We used to be able to blow up guys on crossing routes but the NFL doesn't allow that anymore.
If we send anymore than 4 rushers at Brady he will just dump it off to the hole the blitzing LB created.
Pressure up the middle and press coverage to get Brady off his timing seem's to be the only hope of beating their system.
It's not Brady its the man under the hood.

I really need to somehow see that game again and try and figure out how we pulled that off. I do remember Brady throwing a lot of balls at receivers feet or behind them so we must have got him off his rhythm some how. Maybe I was in a state of shock watching it waiting for the collapse that didn't happen.

Mason Rudolph kind of remind me of Mike Tomczak ...just saying

What ever happened to CB Brian Allen?? He didn't play so I'm guessing his Steeler career is over...

Justin Layne played much better this game ...encouraging

I know this seems like a foreign concept because we haven't seen it much, especially when he plays against the Steelers, but I really think they just caught Brady on a bad day. Sure, the defense played well and got good pressure on him, but he also missed some throws he normally makes. Of course, at his age, those bad days may become more common, but it's not something I would count on seeing in the opener.

Isn’t the game you’re talking about happening week 1? If that’s not early in the year, then what is?

Yes but its Brady and they spread us out and light us up. I can just see us spending all our time preparing for that and they come out and run it down our throats. They've done that before and if you actually watched them in preseason. They are doing a lot of power formations and 3 te's. They will be missing two te's though so who knows what the evil genius will do. He's already in my head.

Why? Its preseason. Nothing matters that doesn't count. We'll see game 1 if your initial thoughts are accurate. I pray they are.

Allen had his chance to impress, and he failed. If he's cut this year, I don't think they bring him back to the practice squad. Layne is their future big CB.

Exactly. Allen had more than enough to show his worth. He was a gamble. Didn't work. Time to move on.

I have stated much of my Pre Season takes in the Fringe Talents within the Defense thread. In short, very impressed with the Defensive dress rehearsal. For a more comprehensive look, PFF did me some SERIOUS favors.

I do not agree with Dobbs being rated so high but I do agree with this. Not for the reasons some may think either. The aforementioned have been playing that well up to that point.

Yep. Justin Layne is the future now. I am also hoping Artie Burns rebounds the same. That would resolve a myriad of contractual issues the team is currently dealing with. I do love Joe Haden but being on the back end of 30 with a lower body injury is doing him no favors.

Artie, Justin Layne and Steven Nelson for the future?! Sign me up please! :)
