The defense isn't inspiring confidence in me. But I still say 11-5.

After that, well, let's see how hot we get. ;) I'm seeing a SB rematch coming if we make it. Just not sure against who yet. :lolol:

I'm thinking 10-6. I'm basing that prediction on the view that our defense will improve over the season. Right now it's not ready for prime time.

Well, that's a pretty good observation. Probably the two teams most likely to get to the SB in the NFC are the Seahawks and the Packers. Although I wouldn't mind a little revenge on the Cowboys either. Damn Neil O'Donnell.

    I'm feeling a difficult 8 and 8.

The Negative Nancy side says the injury and stupidity bug hit early and hard beginning last year with Bell and Blount. No indication it will stop just cause the real season's starting. Right up there with BB's motorcycle/appendix season. No indicators we won't struggle to just get back to 500 after early on players out, jitters, adjusting to new defense ridiculous schedule, tough division. Last time we said don't worry about that meaningless dismal 0-4 pre-season - they went out and lost the first real 4 games as I recall and we struggled to get back to 500 at the end. This is deja vu all over again. Can Deangelo Williams even play an entire game? How about his fumbles? Bell was a beast last year with zero fumbles if I'm correct and kicked ass on receptions and YAC

The Brady revival will by itself be a killer emotionally for that team and the already obnoxious Chowder head crowd. I definitely will have the volume set at zero

The Positive Patty side says - look how we struggled without Bryant for 6 game last year - record 3 and 3. We went 8-2 once Bryant emerged We just flat out outscored so many teams after game 7 last year = defense stayed subnormal allowing 23 points a game all season yet the offense put up 11.5 added pts more per game after Brant emerged in game 7. Bell being out totally killed against the Ravens.

Unfortunately the only game I was able to watch this preseason was the HOF game, which was basically a glorified scrimmage. Reading reports and whatnot though, the defense seems to be a real work in progress, that I think will eventually come around.
I'm going to say the offense will make up for the deficiencies of the defense and they'll end up 10-6.

Yeah, that's been my scenario too. I haven't seen much of the preseason, but most of the reports are that the defense is in trouble. But then again, most of these reports are only based on preseason play, which to me, means total jack. This Patriot game will be very telling on how our "real" defense will be this year. We have the horses to succeed, we just need an aggressive Willie Parker-esque scheme. You know, ride our young athletes on defense until their wheels fall off.

Our offense is too good, even with suspect OL play, and our defense too athletic to be anything less than 10-6. So the optimist in me will add another game to that win column:

    11-5

We'll probably split against Terrell Suggs again and I can see the Rams front 7 giving our OL fits. Throw in three more random losses and I think thats the five predicted.

With the absence of Bell and Bryant to start the season, my head wants to say 9-7 but going with my heart, 11-5

You all know my feelings about what preseason means :bscow:

I'd give the D around week 4 before getting worried but I get what you mean (Show us a little better in week 1 than what was shown all preseason).

I think if the Defense is really "That" bad I'm still very confident the offense is good enough to take us 8-8 by itself, but still wearing them out by years end.

Actually last years D stunk too ranked 16th in the league, but we still won the division with an 11-5 record, and it proved a good offense can carry a mid range defense to the playoffs, but it is hard for an offense to carry the defense once their in the playoffs.....

10-6 winning the division and losing in the divisional round of the playoffs on the road. I just don't see the defense holding up better than that.

    10-6, AFC North Champs:

    L @ Pats
    W vs SF
    L @StL
    L vs Balt
L @SD (at this point, the Steelers will seem "done." but...)
    W vs Ari
    W @KC
    W vs Cincy
    W vs Oak
    W vs Cle
    L @Sea
    W vs Indy
    L @ Cincy
    W vs Den
    W @ Bal
    W vs Cle

This team is going to look awful during the first 5-6 games. I predict the defense will gel and get it going around week 7 at KC, a game nobody will expect them to win and they'll go in there, on the road, and win big, and the season will turn around.

#3 seed, will play #6 WC Buffalo and win. In divisional round, Steelers will go to #2 seed Indy and win there too. That sets up an AFC Champ game showdown with the Pats, who will have pulverized the Steelers in week one. But it's a whole different team, now. Draw your conclusions.

    9-7 and miss the playoffs.

No Bell for two games to start and no Bryant for 4..... Defense still learning new system, secondary among worse in the league.

NO Pouncey!!!! Another injury on the OL will be devastating. I may be fearing the Browns for the first time in my 40+ years as a Steelers Fan.

Our only hope is no injuries, Defense gets better Every game and our offense is the Best we have ever fielded. That's asking slot.
