Here's a list of potential targets and I've combined the two list because our 3rd comp pick & 4th rd pick are so close together. This is the largest list. The further back we go the harder it is to properly list players by grade. Again the combine should help sort things out. No QBs but RBs are starting to get added.

    Pierre Desir CB Lindenwood
    Ryan Carrethers DT Ark St.
    Tre Boston S UNC
    Jackson Jeffcoat OLB Texas
    Brandon Coleman WR Rutgers
    Chris Borlan ILB Wisc.
    Ahmad Dixon SS Baylor
    Dion Bailey SS USC
    Kelsy Quarles DT SC
    Deonne Bucannon S Wash St.
Billy Turner OT N. Dakota St.
    Keith McGill CB Utah
    Mike Davis WR Texas
    EJ Gaines CB Missouri
    Craig Loston SS LSU
    C.J. Friedorowicz TE Iowa
    De'Anthony Thomas RB Oregon
    James Gayle OLB Virginia Tech
    Victor Hampton CB SC
    Ed Stinson DE/OLB Ala.
    Louis Purifoy CB Fla.
    James Hurst OT UNC
    Donte Montcrief WR Ole Miss
    Taylor Hart DE Oregon
    Terrance Brooks FS Fla. St.
    Lache Seastrunk RB Baylor

As before help me grade these guys with the combine around the corner. I'm trying to only list guys the steelers would be interested in. No QBs, Centers or OG.

There's probably alot of players to add to this list since it is covering 2 rounds. Stanley Jean-Baptiste should be in the mix although he could ultimately go well before our comp pick in the 3rd.

At this stage of my draft evaluation, I'm really high on E.J. Gaines. I think his stock will rise though. I have him taking us in Rd. 2 in the Mock I posted last weekend. If we got him with the assumed 3rd rd. comp pick, I'd be real fired up!

These rounds the Steelers should definitely come away with some players in the secondary, there's some good talent to be had.

I also like Gaines. However, I agree that it's not likely that he'll make it to the end of the 3rd.

I would definitely add Christian Kirksey from Iowa to the mix for our 3rd round comp pick, or maybe our 4th rounder. I need to watch more film on him, but based on what I've seen to date I think he could be a nice fit on the inside in our defense. Really good all around player.

all 3 of Iowa's LB'ers were good elvis. they are worth watching.

I'm not seeing much love for dion bailey in the safety department. I think this kid has a lot of talent and makes plays, splash plays. he's similar to carnell lake with his move from playing as a more LB type back to safety. he also has a lot of troy in him around the LOS. he's got a nice radius as far as pass defense too.

Mac, I haven't watched enough film on the Iowa LBs yet to give any more than a first impression, but Kirksey was the only one that stood out to me as an NFL talent. There was another guy with a uniform number in the 40's who looked good, but didn't strike me as being all that athletic. He struck me as a Scott McKillop type - good college player that does't have enough raw talent to go toe to toe with NFL players. Again, just a first impression. Kirksey has the athleticism (on tape anyway) to make it in the NFL.

kirksey is solid. the iowa LB'ers as a group were pretty good last year and a strength for their defense. I'm not sure the others ( besides kirksey) as individual players will be that good without him around them. he was the leader of the group but they all played well together. we need some play makers at LB though, and I hope we grab a couple in this draft.
