So guys where did it all go wrong? We saw ups and we saw downs. For me the turning of the tide was the injury bug. Guys dropped like flies all year even in the preseason. I think that ultimately was what done us in. Also we really didn't play a COMPLETE game all year except for in NY.

The injuries certainly didn't help. Lack of consistency due to lack of regular line-up hurt Haley's long-term gameplans.

LOL, great thread! So many things, injuries, lack of discipline, mental errors, play calling, ill time interceptions, fumblitis, coaching. Lots of things they need to tighten up for next season. I would really like to see this offense start performing well, I don't mean just eek out a win, actually start playing solid football from start to finnish. I'm so sick of this bumbling our way to a victory. And please please no more injury bug!

I think the most important thing is our Strength and conditioning coach. Hey lets get our fat guys like Woodley and Drwyer to work out so they can run.

Maybe try and keep some players from pulling muscles. I know some may hurt knees, ankles, shoulders, and head. But you can do something about pulling muscles

Penalties, injuries, turnovers, special teams mistakes, mental errors, poor tackling, just so many things. Losing to teams early in the season that we should have beat like the raiders and the titans. Just think what if when it comes to those two games that we let slip away. The team just never got in-sync with each other. Seemed as if the defense started slow and the offense came out with a bang, than the defense finally started stepping up, and then the offense just collapsed.

Offense was playing good and the defense couldn't keep a washed up QB from throwing for 300+ and guys RBs who could run for more than a 2.6 ypg suddenly have a 5+YPG. Then the Defense plays good and teams can't score but the offense can't get the ball pass the 50 and when they di they fubled it away or it the ball was intercepted. If we had the 2nd half of the seasons defense with the 1st half of the seasons offense this team would have been great but the biggest disappointment is the team continuing to play a half game, if they played 60 minutes they would be great!

if brown doesn't fumble at oakland or/and at dallas , we are in the playoffs
if sushy hit a 53 yard in tennesee or/and vs cincy we are in the playoffs

The problem is I can list a 100 things that happened, and if they hadn't happened, we'd be in the playoffs. There was just too many things that went wrong to narrow it down to 1 or 2 plays.

We failed on all sides of the ball.

As bad as the D was the 1st few games and as bad as the O was the last few games I still think the ST was worse than both of them. The ST this year was abysmal. Rainey was getting mega yards but they were giving them back with stupid penalties. AB scored in the Skins game but it got called back. Jones scored one against us in the 1st Rats game on ST. Tomlin fired the coach at the start of the season. He BETTER get this crap fixed NOW! If we are gonna keep this same system we need some better field position. Think of how much we've punted in our own territory lately. Think about the STUPID ST play of AB in Dallas when he didn't catch the ball and let it go for 20 yards rolling when we needed field position DESPERATELY in that game. Our ST HAD to be the worst in the league this year! We were the most penalized for sure at one point. I don't know if that stands today but it did for a while at least.

if that 23 yard field goal had been made, I'm convinced the Steelers win that game, and we are in the playoffs as well. That was it.

That was certainly a key moment. But I wouldn't lay it all on Suisham. He was one of the few regular performers for us this year.

I'm not laying it on him. It was a bad snap.

Meanwhile, Baltimore went 10-6 because a) a last second field goal by Tucker against NE was good by about an inch b) the Cowboys missed a very makeable field goal to beat them in the final seconds. That's how close they came to 8-8.

Personally I think it all comes down to mental mistakes both on the players and the coaching staff. Does not matter how much talent or lack of talent we have, when you make as many mental errors as we did in big games.

Mental errors all phases: coaching, QB, offense, defense, special teams, offensive & defensive coordinators and lines.

Brain farts every yard of the field this year, period.

Citing key plays that cost the season is short-sighted. This team should have been at least 12-4 with the level of talent. Too many things, all cited above, we're a perfect storm for a mediocre season, not just one or two plays.

Lack of a running game, due to musical chairs at the RB position.
    Fumbilitis.
Poor situational football. IE: Taking a sack in field goal range to push the team out of said field goal. Lining up to run on 3rd and one with no fullback.
Penalities on special teams. Make all the players wear mittens if you have to. Holding week after week is inexcusable for a "professional" squad.
Lack of splash plays by the defense.

I'm sure there are more but thats just what comes to the top of my head

Some people on this board, think this a none issue, but I agree with you about fat and out of shape. Woodley, Dwyer, Foster, Colon, Gilbert, Max etc.

However the injuries were only a part of the problem, penalties, fumbles, drop passes, horrible special teams, bad schemes at times on offense and play calling at times that got worse the more games we played, too many head games with the running backs.

I also think the conditioning is pitiful as well. But the problem is we don't really know exactly what role these coaches play. I mean do they have any authority? Do they have any quotas or whatever to meet? Or are they just there to help them know how to train the best. This is something noone has been able to tell me for certain.

12-4 or better. We have the talent but the injuries and mental mistakes killed us. There are other issues that hurt us but those two cost us this season. Thankfully both can be fixed with time and preperation. Hopefully we start off next year with a healthy team that is properly conditioned and focused.

This season went wrong in many ways. What concerns me moving forward

    - Ownership wanting to get back to a running team and having a QB that wants to throw the ball
    - Haley's play calling throughout the year in important game situations
    - Discipline installed on the team, I noticed Pouncey today being a punk on a few plays taking cheap shots, Other players also in this category throughout the year
    - Player injuries as it seems every year our o line is patch work and the d has multiple players out
    - Running back by committee, when you have average backs.
    - Football shape of our players, we got pushed around in almost all our games this year
