This could be bad for the Steelers. Very little tape on one qb and none on the other doesn’t give the steelers much to prepare for

If they release Watson, they won't have enough cap space to sign a practice squad.

knowing how these things usually go, this will probably still be a tight game.

There is tape on both quarterbacks. Walker has been around for years and he started two games this season. Thompson-Robinson started one game, an ugly loss to the Ravens.

I think we are going to see designed runs with Thompson-Robinson, with some RPO off it. That is where they will miss Fitzpatrick's athleticism.

TJ and highsmith should be able to deal with this. LB play in this one will be crucial. adams, cam benton, ogunjobi as well. i hope we don't play near as much in sub packages. (two down linemen).

I wouldn't be surprised if DTR gets benched during this game, and replaced by Walker at some point.

It's why I said I'd rather be playing Watson. We are undefeated against Him....even when He played for the Texans. Give Me the Devil I know any day.

Assuming Watson's shoulder injury isn't career threatening and he can assume some shade of his former self Cleveland isn't totally left out to dry. The key provision in the contract for them is the void year they included in 2027 (Watson's age 32 year). With his salary guaranteed from 2024-2026, it allows them to restructure his contract by converting P5 salary to signing bonus on their own - i.e., without express consent of the player - as opposed to negotiating an extension.

A look at the remaining contract years as they stand currently:

    Year Base Prorated Cap Hit
    2024 $46M $18M $64M
    2025 $46M $18M $64M
    2026 $46M $18M $64M
    2027 void $9M $9M

Let's assume they restructure Watson's contract and convert, say, $24M from P5 to signing bonus in 2024, $27M in 2025, and $40M in 2026. That results in the following:

    2024 $22M $24M $46M
    2025 $19M $33M $52M
    2026 $6M $53M $59M
2027 void $44M $44M (dead money unless an extension is reached)

The salary cap in 2024 is estimated to be around $258M. The Browns currently sit at $285M with 44 under contract but would save $15M with this move, and have significant chunks of salary tied into contracts with Cooper, Chubb, and Ward that could be thinned into future years via restructure or extension as well. It won't be painless, but it at least allows them the room to make the basic and a maybe a few mid-level signings while waiting for the cap to catch up.

I don't know how true this is, but I heard someone talking about yesterday that because it's all full guaranteed contract that they only has so much wiggle room with it....unlike other contract that aren't fully guaranteed. Again I don't know if this is true, or not. I think I heard it on one of the FS1 channels. It's it true???

There's certain wiggle room like I showed above, but in general it's more restrictive because the club cannot effectively cancel the salary by cutting the player, and the prospect of trading the player becomes more difficult as well.

There is film on Thompson-Robinson. He started against the Ravens.

Not knowing the rookie quarterback isn't the issue. Trying to stop anybody with the injuries stacking up at inside linebacker and safety is very much a problem. There is a good chance they will be without both Fitzpatrick and Neal Sunday.

Somehow I missed how ugly the column spacing becomes once you press 'Post' until just now. I need to find a remedy for that. o_O
