The horrible officiating has gotten out of control ,not only in football but all major sports. It has reached the point of actually affecting the outcome of games. This should never ever be the case, all games should be decided on the field,by the players. Somewhere along the line these guys have adopted the attitude that they are bigger than the game itself, like I said in all sports. If there are any boxing fans out there they always say a good referee is one that you don't even notice is in the ring. These guys constantly make call that aren't there and miss the ones that are. I know it's a hard game to officiate with the speed and all but there are too many calls that definitely make you question their integrity and fairness. I feel the biggest and most important rule change they need to make is the pass interference penalty it has just become too inconsistent with the way they are called. It should be a spot foul called under 15 yds and a 15yd for anything over(college rules). You can commit any type of unsportsmanlike penalty and only receive a slap on the wrist compared to a P.I. penalty ,that doesn't seem right to me. The inconsistent calls along with the fact that the WRs have become good at initiating contact and doing their own brand of interference as well(see the Ike Taylor call). It has just become too game altering of a call and even a big part of some teams gameplan(hint) Ravens. Something needs to be done its only getting worse ,I think changing the way they penalize P.I. Is a major step in assuring that games are decided the way they used to be and should be .......by the players on the field.

Lot of the times fans look at it from a biased stand point though. I blame the Steelers yesterday, they played like a sloppy pop warner team, it was embarrassing. You can argue the rules, and I'd agree in a lot of instances but under the rules, that was PI by Ike. The numerous holds, the illegal formations, that was all on the Steelers, they need to tighten it up, it was pathetic.

There were back to back calls late in the SD-NO game last night that made the replacement refs look competent. One was a push off on Antonio Gates (it wasn't) and the other was a holding penalty (it wasn't). SD got a first down on the next play on a 3rd and 30 because of a hands to the face call but it cost SD significant feld position and may have affected the outcome of the game.

Gates totally pushed off, one second the defender was right with him and the next Gates is wide open, how did he get such great separation that quickly if he didn't push off on him, it was clear as can be on the replay. I don't recall the hold but holding calls are always going to be nit picked and the hands to the face was also totally a penalty. Like I said, direct the criticism at the right place, it's the rules itself that are the problem. The officials got both those calls right. If it was the replacement officials, they would have called roughing the passer on the PI call against Gates and the hands to the face they would have called too many men on the field. And would have taken 30 minutes to discuss it just to get it all wrong anyway.

the penalties against the Steelers were all deserving. my problem was that the Eagles were getting away with murder.

the refs swallowed their whisle way too much when it came to penalties against them. the Steeler wr's were getting hit and pulled just as much as the Steeler db's where hitting and pulling on the Eagle wr's.

that play where Brown lost his shoe and one of the Eagle players chucked it to the sidelines should have been a delay of game penalty. it just seemed like everytime the Eagles had a penalty the refs somehow "didnt see it".

No way, TE. The DB stumbled which caused the separation but Gates did not push off. Every analyst that's commented on that, including Collinsworth and Michaels said it was a bad call.

I'll have to look at it again, only saw the one replay but it looked like he did from the angle I saw. I thought he stumbled because of the push off. And lets not use Collinsworth for a barometer of good or bad calls :lolol: I'll lend merit to what Michaels says though.

That wallace slant into the endzone shows he was clearly held from catching the ball. no call.

Every one was sitting back waiting for the replacement refs to cost the league the outcome in the game. Finally their opportunity arose with the Packer game. I very close call was blown way out of proportion in my opinion to help strong arm a deal into affect. Now with what, about a week back, the regular season refs cost a game, but that won't get talked about. The Ravens strip sacked flake-o and recovered in the endzone for a TD at the end of the game, but the play was called dead and the rat birds ended up winning by 3.

Right, the play was whistled dead, so what's the problem? You have an issue with that but not a horribly botched jump ball? Plays get whistled dead all the time, sucks for KC, sucks for us but that play wasn't even remotely the same as the GB/Seattle game.

And why were the Ravens sacking Flacco? :hmmm: Are they sick of him too? :lolol: (sorry, couldn't resist!)

Well, IMO, there was at least 2 calls which were poor. 1 was a hold call on Colon where the guy simply pushed himself out of balance and on top of Colon. Wasn't a hold IMO. Second was on of the PI calls against Ike. First time I have seen the WR reach in grab the CBs arm and pull him to the ground and the CB gets called for PI. That was a really bad call and extended a drive.

Yes, there were a couple of PIs on the Eagles where the officials let it go. It affected our point totals.

    :lolol:

The one thing I saw that was missed was a PI on whoever was covering Sanders (Rodgers Cromartie?). He was WAY early and it was a non call. At the same time, Manny has a bad habit of calling for a flag on almost every play when he does not catch the ball. The calls on the Steelers were legit. We have a lot of work to do in that area.....

I have no problem with penalty calls, as long as the refs make these calls against both teams, it was hard watching the refs allowing the eagles to get away clean with the same penalties they flagged the steelers for. In the saints game the chargers were flagged for the same penalties the refs allowed the saints to get away with. So, it has nothing to do with a penalty call, it has everything to do with the way refs penalize one team for a foul they ignore when the other team commits it, I see this happening more and more during this season and it needs to be addressed....

It's incredible that some of you guys cry that the refs miss calls on teams that play against us but you seem to ignore the fact that Ike commits PI on every single play. Ike is either 10 yards off the receiver or he's draped all over him, clutching and grabbing. There's PI on every single passing play, and if you choose to believe that the refs are ignoring other teams but only calling us then that's what you will see. The fact is that the blatant ones are normally called when the refs have an angle that permits them to see the penalty. At times the refs have a bad angle so what appears to be PI may not get called as the refs view is blocked by the positioning of the players.

Every single fan of every single team believes the refs screw them. The Steelers are nothing special in that regard. There will be bad calls and there will be missed calls, the game is too damn fast for the refs to get it right 100% of the time, but those things even up in the end. I've seen Ike get away with many PI penalties.

Yeah, they missed some against us, I was just so incensed on how poorly we were playing that I wasn't effected as much by the non calls against us. And I totally agree about Sanders but it's not just him, I hate how everyone mimics throwing a flag after every play, STOP it! So freaking annoying :frustrated:

This is why I didn't understand the replacement ref outrage, as if all was good beforehand

Touche on my typo lol. I'm in the minority of those who think the jump ball call was not as cut and dry as everyone makes it out to be, though, it shouldn't have mattered since it was pass interference.

I agree with you a 100% on that one. I'd have to go and review a bunch of hail mary passes to be sure but I don't recall ever seeing such a blatant PI as that one. People say oh no, they never call stuff like that on a jump ball, I don't by it, that wasn't just some give and take pushing, he shoved him to the ground! Come on man :lolol:
