It is really baffling the way they are using the TEs, I love Darnell, but why even trade for Jonnu Smith if you're not going to use him?? I don't know what Smith is thinking.

For the first 3 weeks, the percentage (%) of snaps:
    Smith -66, 57, 83. This week only 25%
    Pat -50, 50, 70. This week only 28%
    Darnell -46, 37, 37. This week 91%.
    Spencer A. - 2, 7, 7. This week 36%

This week, I think they prioritized blocking to the detriment of the receiving TE's. So ultimately, it is a function of the o-line performance and the blocking capabilities of the receiving TE.

Steelers are probably going to trade Muth + Pick for a WR.

    You heard it here first.

The problem with trading him is his contract- he already has the 9th-highes APY at the position - his deal is heavy on base salary, averaging around $7.5M per year, with only $2.1M per in prorated bonus (plus an annual $1.5M roster bonus if still on the team each March) .

What that means is the team trading for him would take on the bulk of the contract's value (base + future roster bonuses). It's possible somebody would do that, but it likely would lessen the return for the Steelers.

The upside to that type of structure is that it allows the team to release the player without a significant hit in dead money. For example, releasing Pat before March 15, 2026 would result in $6.2M in dead money for the Steelers, which could be mitigated into $2.1M/$4.2M in 2026/27 if they designated him a post-June 1st cut.
