i saw the patriots are going to sign chuks okrafor. good for them. i can really see us cutting dan moore too. one position guy. i don't dislike moore but if he is to become a backup he would have to be more flexible and he isn't. we could save that money and he also doesn't cost a lot of dead money to do it. we seem to be cutting guys to save nickels and dimes to build the spendable cap space for possibly russell. cook, anderson, and some of these futures picks may get a shot even if we draft a center and tackle. at least for depth to save money where we can. just my take.

You can't just cut everyone until you have someone to replace them. Well, except for Mason Cole, and he was just so bad.

the guys we have cut were not worth keeping. same may happen with moore. we need the money to replace them. it can't all be done through the draft.

Even if they draft a RT, I think Moore will be on the roster in 2024.

Moore isn’t costing much and has starting experience, I don’t see why the team would cut him

As bad as he has played, it's not a situation where you have to cut to save money as most anyone you sign/draft is going to cost about the same. You cut early to save bucks, and/or give the guy a headstart in FA, not much to gain cutting him early, if they sign or draft someone, he gets beat out in camp then he walks, if he stays on the 53 you have an experienced back up..kind of a win/win, kind of lol.

    This.

Even if Amarius Mims turns out to be the pick, he isn't likely to start; much to my dismay. That said, Mims needs serious time in the oven to cook. Way too raw to be sent out there at present; natural position or not.

he would get them 3.366 mil. with only a dead money cost of 174,475. these are the guys you want to cut for a higher savings with low dead money hits. he's only signed for a year longer and you would probably lose him anyway. one trick pony as well. depends on who or if they draft a tackle capable of playing both sides and how far anderson and cook have come along. if moore isn't in the teams future plans why keep that salary? put it towards guys that may start.

No offense but I think you high jacked your own thread. Yes Moore should be let go. When he’s not getting beat he’s committing a penalty most of the time.

That’s fine if you have enough depth at the position. Nobody wants him starting but $3m isn’t outrageous for a backup swing tackle with several year’s experience.

I hope they go T in the first round and move on from him

No but on game day, he causes you to have to have extra linemen to play any other position on the line but LT and that could also leave you short at another position. They can only dress so many.

Surely he could take snaps at RT if needed? They always dress a swing tackle and I think he would be fine in that role

I certainly wouldn’t be cutting him right now, after roster displacement they are only saving $2m and that’s only if you are replacing him with a rookie or a league minimum type player. If they get a couple of rookie Tackles in the draft and they look good in camp then maybe you could make a case for it but I’d still query if it’s worth the risk.

well he really hasn't shown that ability up until now. why have a guy that could maybe do it over a guy that could play either side. there is really not a lot of upside to keeping him unless jones goes down. we could find a guy for a savings for one year. that's all we have him for and he's lost his job. maybe there is a trade possibility.

He hasn’t lost his job, if the Steelers played today he would be starting, like he has the past three years. And he hasn’t shown the ability to play at RT only because he has taken almost every snap at LT since he was drafted.

Cutting him now would mean gambling on finding a day 1 starting Tackle in the draft AND finding a backup / swing Tackle somewhere as well, in a league where virtually every team needs help at Tackle. That is not a gamble most people would want to make.

We can agree to disagree on it but I honestly don't see the logic of cutting him for the pitiful cap savings involved.
