You could see the Steelers, move more of AB final year money this coming season. Much like they did this year.
Which they would then extend him in his final year. But, I wouldn't do this if I were the Steelers if he has another 1,800 yard season.
It's going to make the market that much higher.

We're in fine shape for once. Cap is going up, some money is coming off, and we can let a guy or two go if need be. We'll be just fine without Wheaton or Beachum if it comes to that.

i could see cutting timmons. his play has declined this year. not sure they will though strummer.

    foster?
    wheaton?
    will johnson?
    will allen?
    spaeth?
    suisham?
    gradkowski?
    s.thomas?
    mclendon?
    beachum?
    berry?

many minor contracts may not be re-signed out of these guys adding up to some cash savings.

I don't know that they will, but something has to be done about his contract. My gut says they will extend him, but he is 34 years old

One bright spot yesterday. Cam Thomas is no longer stealing money from Pittsburgh.

Did a bit more playing around on overthecap.com. Theres really a lot that we can do to manage the cap this offseason without mortgaging the future. We will need to let some guys go. Wheaton has another year on his rookie deal, and I don't see an extension this offseason. I doubt that we resign Beachum. Timmons needs to be extended to reduce his 2016 hit. I think it's 50/50 on whether we can do anything with Bell this offseason.
    Timmons is 29.

TTF better back-up the site because if they retain Cam Thomas, this board will have a melt-down.

A few others off the top of my head- Greg Warren, Blake, Willy Gay, Robert Golden...

I don't see them cutting Timmons this offseason. A reworking of his deal to clear some cap room seems imminent. There's plenty of restructuring room in Ben's contract to clear some space. Cutting Cortez Allen. Heyward's $5 Mil roster bonus will likely be rolled into a signing bonus. There's a few million in carry over from 2015. It's a pretty good offseason as far as the cap is concerned.

I do daily backups, but I might want to switch to twice a day just in case. :lolol:

My only question salary cap guru's - Will they have 500k-1 mill to spare for a reliable 3rd string running back?

We have a good 3rd string running back.
Washed up veteran RB's never fumble right?

Oh really? The same one that cost us the game? I'd like to not lose the next playoff game because of a back-up running back. Is that too much to ask?

When you get down to your 3rd string RB what do you expect? If the guy's that great then he's a starter.
You're pretty much answering your own question.

I knew 34 for was wrong, but would have bet money he was older than that

I expect the team to be ready especially after already losing a playoff game because of this. I guess Tomlin doesn't learn from his mistakes.

Yeah, we'll definitely be fine. The only real question mark in that department is Beachum, who is an unrestricted free agent coming off a significant injury.

I wouldn't expect any new money to be spent on running backs that would count towards the top 51.

Realize that if AB doesn't get restructured, he very well may holdout. He threatened it this year, so saying he'll have to wait is fine, but it may come at a significant cost.

From the amount of grief you're giving over that fumble you'd swear the Steelers were playing against a bunch of scrubs instead of arguably the top defence in the league this year. I hear good defences sometimes make plays. Especially against backups.

I saw how much the veteran pickup of Steven Jackson did for the patriots Saturday night. They were so confident in that situation that they let him run the ball 6 times for 16 yards. And best of luck trying to argue that belichick is a coach who normally doesn't plan ahead and yet they are still in that situation. Yes they won their game but it's surely not because of a once great but now past his time running back. The same way that a similar player would have had just as little impact Sunday night for us.

Denver are a good team. And they beat us. That's all there is.

I think we can actually benefit vs. the 2016 cap by resigning AB to an extension this offseason. I know we have a policy of not doing extensions before the player's contract year, but I think it should happen, especially if it's a mutually beneficial situation.

Then let him sit until he smartens up. The team is bigger than any individual player. Let him sit all year for all I care.

Anybody that wasn't going to fumble the game away? Pierre Thomas, Steven Jackson, Joseph Randle.
