I see the defense didn't show up again today. 0-3 team comes in our house and beats us. The defense on this team is terrible, defenders do not know how to defend against the pass, they are not even looking where the ball is and heaven forbid if we were to have a turnover. Gay needs to go, why in the hell did they bring back Harrison. He was done when he left and they bring him back because he wants to retire a Steeler. The way they are playing I would think that would be very embarrassing. Save the money you are paying him and train someone that is trainable. This team sucks

This is an unintelligent rambling due to the loss. The Steelers defense will continue to look like this until they replace their defensive line with good players.

That will take a while because the LBers aren't much better.

Two of the starters did not play today. That is significant. The Steelers have their offensive components for the next several years in place (Ben/Bell/Blount/Brown/Wheaton) so they can go heavy in defense next year in the draft. I would consider taking 3-4 defensive linemen and simply overhaul the unit. I would also find a CB somewhere, because obviously they need one (or two), but DL first and most important.

My biggest problem with this team is that they have the potential to be a playoff contender but very terrible coaching decisions are really wasting Ben's career. Once Ben is out of the league, if you think these games are bad just wait till its some scrub at QB.

But will they draft the right players? Heyward is OK but Hood and Jarvis were/are busts and the other defense picks the last 5-6 years haven't been much better.

As I agree with you in going heavy on the defensive through the draft, I will add we need to look at free agent defensive lineman. It seems like we don't have the coaching staff to develop defensive linemen in two years. Look at Heyward, it took him at least 3 years before he showed up. Ziggy Hood was a square peg in a round hole. We need that veteran DL not named Cam Thomas.

I was going to wait a day to calm down before commenting or starting a new thread, but I can't sit back and read some of the things being said here and remain silent.......
First and formost, we beat ourselves....we are our own worst enemy... very seldom do teams overcome 12 yes worth of penalties and 2 missed field goals......
As far as having subpar players are concerned, I couldn't disagree more... we have 2 or 3 problem areas that need shoring up.....
Cam Thomas has pretty much been a non factor through the first quarter of the season.. it's time to go to tuition or put 99 back in full time......
Also, james Harrison did quite well for the time he was in, as did moats..... where has world's been in this 1st quarter season..... that's 9.5 miles of wasted money so far...
Jarvis Jones had 2 sacks and a forced fumble for the 1st 2.5 games of the season before his injury.....if moats continues to be consistently productive, then world's will be wearing a different uniform next yr....
Last but not least is the state of our cb's..... Cortez Allen rebounded nicely from a very shaky 1st quarter, and came up with our 1st and only int. Of the yr. So far..... Willie gaya is wasted on the outside, but unfortunately, there is no other option until draft time rolls around.. it is what it is.....
The penalties point to a lack of discipline and maturity, and that is on the coaches..... overall, this is fixable this yr.. the only question is will it be

Even Ike could have probably made the catch on that wounded duck. So it was nothing special that Allen did. Allen looked horrible the whole game and gave up some big catches at big times. He is not an NFL caliber CB unless you want him to be the 4th or 5th corner. He seems to get worse as time goes by not better. As far as fixing the problems this team continues to show this year, I'm voting no. I think our players as a group are definately sub par and by some of the things some of them do, not real bright. Beside, I don't see anyone on the coaching staff that can fix anything. Don't get me wrong, I've been a Steeler fan for longer than most people here have been alive and won't stop supporting them or rooting for them ,but I am being honest about how I feel about them right now and how bad they are playing. I refuse to sugarcoat it and pretend it is something different than what it is, which is bad.

I'm not sure where you got that I was sugarcoating anything, when I clearly stated that players like cam Thomas should be benched, or that world's was getting 9.5 mil. for taking up space, but I guess you missed that.... I'm sure you also missed the part about gay being wasted on the outside as well, or that the lack of discipline was a coaching issue.....

I really wish people would read an entire post before making any rebuttals, but just like our secondary, I'm sure I'm stuck with this for the time being

If Tomlin had any smarts as a head coach he would have put Lebeau out to pasture in a nice way long, long ago.

But Tomlin is just a stupid, figurehead that has convinced himself that long hours and hard work (no matter how stupidly) will yield results. The sad thing is Tomlin doesn't realize he's dumb. He thinks he just has to work harder, not smarter, and things will get better.

Instead of looking around and seeing what is wrong, he will lower his head and just plow ahead, yell and scream, try to "act" like a coach rather than be a coach and hope the team changes, when in reality all we are seeing (good, bad, all over the place football) is the randomness of a very, very mediocre team with no direction, no discipline and no leadership.

It is TOMLIN'S job to decide when Lebeau is done. NOT LEBEAU'S!!! Instead of being a leader, Tomlin is being nothing but a facilitator to an aging legend as the game finally passes him by (which is inevitable to even the greatest of the great).

Your wrong. I didn't miss anything but apparently you did. I didn't say you were sugercoating anything. What I said was I'm not going to sugarcoat it and defend this team as not having sub par players, that Allen had a bad game from start to finish and that this coaching staff seems incapable of fixing anything. It wasn't an attack on you. If it was you would know it, but it wasn't. I just disagreed with a couple of thing you pointed out in your post. I didn't mention the other points you stated because I agreed with them. Relax we are all on the same side.

I would disagree with you on this Del. LeBeau has a lot to offer. In that interview (another thread here) Coach T calls LeBeau an old white guy, so he isn't showing him any respect. The FO is making the choice to keep Lebeau and with that the many defense strategies that he has implemented through the years. LeBeau isn't too old to make a good defense, just how many times can you move a defense around to "disguise" what they are going to do? We all know that his schemes are complicated... maybe too much for the guys that someone else has recruited? In that way, LeBeau may be too old for game. For him to recognize the players aren't smart enough to learn his defense strategies in a couple weeks?

so tomlin doesn't even have the balls to fire a coach that even not respect ... (following your point )

I don't think its a "balls issue" so much as completely out of his control. If he calls his assistant coach names like that (which is disrespectful in every way-- maybe not if Lebeau is sitting right there) then the locker room dynamics have got volatile.

We've overhauled the DL already and it didn't work whatsoever. We've drafted numerous LB'ers, none of which have panned out so far (still too early to write off Jarvis Jones of course, but it's not looking good for him at this point). What makes you think the next defenders we draft will do anything? We cannot draft defence at all

I was asking last night how many "hits" we've had on D under Tomlin. Not NEARLY as many was we did under Cowher. I can only think of Timmons and Woodley and even Timmons has never been to a pro bowl. Tomlin has had more hits on O than maybe Cowher did when it comes to skill positions. But still he hasn't really rebuilt our d in a good way. At least not that I can think of. Who am I missing that is a true defensive stud that Tomlin brought in? On O I can think of Bell, Pouncey, AB, Wallace(who ultimately I wound up strongly disliking but did contribute for a time), and maybe Wheaton. So I think Tomlin has done ok drafting o but for a "defensive guy" he doesn't seem to evaluate talent very well. Maybe it's because he prefers a 4-3 and keeps looking for guys that he might be able to implement it after DL goes?

Look at the talent MT/KC have brought in,
ask yourself can we do better? We must do better.
Art II really needs to look at himself and his organization and ask our we getting it done?
It's time to turn the page on this chapter folks.
