Thought we might take a true FB sometime late in draft.
    We did not.
Thought we would sign a UDFA after draft.
We did not.(That I have seen so far)

I think we need one!! Especially with this new OL!! Run the damn ball...I know its a passing league but you keep... Marcia,Manning 1&2,Brees,ect....on the bench.....build a good D for when they are on field..(Which we have)..We would be hard to beat.

    We need a true FB!!!

    Thought??

MT spoke about wanting to draft one but that a true FB is hard to find now. I think they will bring in a undrafted FB. Have there been a lot of undrafted signings already? I haven't been paying attention.

@faninky, no one is suggesting to abandon the pass but i'ts nice to have the option to be able to pick up a few yards with a run for a 1st down. Plus, having a run game makes it much harder to defend us. Keeps defenses honest.

It's not the 1970's anymore smashmouth football has been replaced by 4 or 5 receiver sets, they probably don't want to use a roster spot for a true fb. They can keep using h-back/ tight end in the backfield.

Again, no one is saying to do that, but a FB is much better then h-back/tight end, at least better then what we have on the roster. I'm not familiar with Pope, he's Haleys boy, I don't know what he can do yet.

BA pulled the jedi mind trick and convinced the Steelers not to draft a FB. At least that's what some would have people believe.

The Texans do and they do it to the tune of having the leading rusher and quite possibly the best run blocking Oline in the league two years in a row. They also sport a passing attack with probowl receiver and plenty of passes to the tightend as well as runningbacks in the flat as well as properly executed screens. Had Schaub not gotten hurt I think they would have challenged NE in the AFC championship last season.

What spot was John Kuhn listed on our roster at?
Also, as I read my local paper, I noticed the Clowns drafted a player listed at "Fullback", outta college.
Would never say they are a good team, I was just surprised to see a player actually listed at "fullback", coming out of college.
Forget the name, one of their last couple picks....
I wouldn`t say we NEED one, but I sure miss Krieder.
There are ways to work around it, though.
Even if you don`t wanna use a TE...
Why couldn`t we just, every once in a while, at goal line, or critical 3d/4th yd and inches situations, put in a big lineman, or Harrison, or something, like the Bears did with "Fridge Perry", back in the day?

Fans want the offense to score more points. The Steelers are not going to become a top 5 scoring offense because they have a true FB on the roster. Becoming a top 5 scoring offense hinges on the effectiveness of Ben and the passing game. I don't understand this infatuation that some people have with a true FB.

No what a good solid blocking fullback, lets be honest because that is what we are talking about here not a guy that will catch the ball out of the back field more than five times a year, what they are is band-aid for poor scheming and ability on the Oline. The reason most zone blocking teams don't use a Fb as a lead blocker is because they try to utilize athletic linemen who can chip in on a double team and then move into the second level to block a LB or safety. Something the slow plodding road graders they Steelers had drafted were no able to do with the exception of Pouncey. So what that fullback does is allow of an additional blocker to move beyond the LOS and seal off the running lane for the RB. The problem with the H-back/TE hybrids is that they lack the vision to know who to block at the POA and who is a better one on one matchup for the RB. I have gone into long drawn out examples of where Johnson fails in this regard time and time again. So while a true blocking FB may not be the secret to a great O it is a way to get better production out of your running game and ease the work load of the offensive line.

Since when is Kuhn not a FB...he's always been a FB even when he was with the Steelers. He's not a TE/FB...yes he may carry the ball sometimes, but so do all FBs.

I think the fans just want the team to win and be balanced at times...and be able to run the ball EFFECTIVELY, and with a true FB it helps...ever since the team lost Kreider the running game hasnt been as consistent, yes Mendy put up some good yards in the 2010 season/etc...but the running game hasnt been consistent. I dont know many people who care about becoming a top 5 offense or anything...they just want the best players at all the positions and want to win...who cares about scoring 40+ points...it only takes 1 to win.

Yes always have. I long for the days of John L. Williams, Jon Whitman, Dan Krieder when you have a blocking back that cleared the road.
