The kid caught what, two passes? Yes, he is talented, but let's see him actually make a play in a regular-season game before we start giving Khan credit.

I always tend to be doubtful of any players who redshirts the first year, just seems like the odds are so stacked against them but it seems as if Wilson will rebound nicely.

Obvious statement of the year but it would be huge for the team if he can be a legit #2.

    I was stating Fautanu specifically.

You are correct about the lack of cohesion together; problems abound for the early part of the season no doubt.

Like I said. I still don’t have alot of faith in our coaching staff. You can throw all kinds of pedigree at a problem but if you don’t revise the scheme and get better coaches in the more things remain the same. There is a bit of arrogance with Tomlin to remain so married to a scheme without considering change. No way that defense should perform as bad as it did yesterday. I thought we would be more aggressive with blitzing having a better secondary but we still played alot of zone with a four man rush. I do feel we will get better however and I think the Jets have a pretty good offensive line. It just gets frustrating however seeing the same issues year after year after year and it never gets corrected. How much money are we going to invest in the offensive line and inside linebacker rooms and yet we continue to struggle in those areas. At what point do we look at the scheme and the coaching?

Many people let the regular season stats on defense fool them!

The defense will be very good against weaker offenses and I think the Steelers defense will bounce back in the next two games.

However, against a really good offense or a team with great coaching, this defense is extremely vulnerable.

    The Bad and the good.

    The Bad:
    - The Steelers run game was terrible. While Warren did rip off some runs in the 2nd, Tomlin/Smith didn't do themselves any favors with playing #14 a so many downs.
    - The run blocking was not good at all. Broderick Jones in particular was bad. Offensive Lines are supposed to love run blocking.
    - The Steelers run defense wasn't impressive at all. TJ was really fired up and I think there was some dressing down at have time. They got slightly better. In particular, Cam did not play well.
    - Elliot might be gone for the season. He did get beaten badly on a big play but that is an exception.

    The Good:
    - QB, QB, QB, QB and QB. Rogers isn't a spring chicken and that is sad because the elements he brings to the game we VERY clear.
    - WR #2, my favorite topic. Calvin Austin made a 50/50 catch that was as good as any. Metcalf was a machine. The #3 spot is a little weak but a guy like Rogers can make anyone look great.
    - I like the inside passing to the TE's and really appreciate what Smith brings to the table.
    - Boswell. He is Boswell.
    - Just when I was getting concerned about Ramsey he makes the plays I expect.
    - LB's, I think we are going to be ok across the board there.
    - ST's in general were pretty good.

Ha! Excellent catch.... I am used to Band G Patrols game thoughts just being there... bad habit.
    Thanks!

Yep and it doesn’t have to be that way. The coaching and the scheme has to change. I hate the way we use our ILB’s. I hate the way we have the edge coach down on inside runs completely giving up outside contain. We have alot of talent on that defense being wasted but the Tomlin supporters will say maybe the talent is just too old. Maybe we aren’t as talented as we think we are. Then why are we paying all of these guys so much. Why did we sign these guys then. Either way its an indictment on Tomlin. Either know the talent you have and sign and draft payers appropriately or coach the guys up or put them in position to succeed. There is a disconnect somewhere.

The fact we seemingly have the same issues year after year after year and we can’t get them corrected after throwing so much talent at the problems tells me it has to be scheme and coaching related. I see alot of other teams doing a heck of alot more on defense and with their offensive lines with significantly less pedigree than we have.

Our one staple of our defense (the pass rush with Watt) has gotten worse and now that teams know how to neutralize Watt we seemingly have no answer. There is no innovation or their is an unwillingness to change with our scheme and coaching. Very little blitzing, very little stunts or disused blitzes. Tomlin will express how we need to make changes and we will never see a change it will be same old same old.

With the bad you can pretty much just cut and paste this and put it in for pretty much every game the last three or four years. Its crazy how we seemingly have the same problems year after year and we can not get these corrected. I will say I disagree with you on the LB’s as a whole being good. Yes the OLB’s were good but the IB”s were pretty much non existent. Wilson was missing in action. This was supposed to be his year. With Ramsey they didn’t have him on Wilson at the beginning of the game and we paid for it with Slay getting beat then they finally put him on Wilson and he basically makes the game winning play. Not sure why the coaches have to try to out think themselves and just be practical and put your best player on their best player from the beginning.

    Funny isn't it.....
How You , and others do that with Lamar Jackson, Dan Marino, and others.
Stop ....You either count regular season, or you don't. If You truly don't count regular season then Marino, Lamar, Tomlinson, and Barry Sanders aren't very good players.
You can't have it both ways. You can't only count regular season when You want to.

I did not talk about the playoffs in this post....I talk against good offense and coaching team, this steelers defense are vulnerable like crazy...Just to look in the last 10-15 years, they have the same problem almost every time, regular season or playoffs

Remember the second half of last season....If Watt is not superhuman, this defense can't overcome their issues against good offense

You need to read what You wrote. You specifically wrote " let regular season stats fool them"
Just because a team falls apart against teams at times, especially against the two teams that actually played in the SB , doesn't mean the D wasn't good . Especially when for most of the year they were on the field too much because of the offense. Nobody said they were awesome, spectacular, special, or phenomenal, but to sit here , and say they weren't good , is bull$hit. You aren't top 10 in many major Defensive categories because you suck at it.
